is it possible to turn a xc bike into more of a free ride bike. to be specific a large 2001 gary fisher big sur w/ 100mm z5's and will changing the stem to a higher degree give it more pop cause it is tough to get the front wheel up.

The thing with changing your bike to a f/r is to make it all beefier. Shorter stem with a riser bar a good start. I found decent sized tires made a difference. Went with 2.6front/2.3rear gazzi. after that as long as your smooth enough or arent doing anything tooooo big your frame will hopefully hold up. Just start replacing parts that break with bomb proof stuff.
later.

Wider tires, lower air pressure and stronger wheels are an excellent way to spend your money. Flat pedals and some armor might be in order.
