| Santa Cruz Models? | lhp Aug 30, 2001 3:55 PM | | I'm researching Santa Cruz Bikes based on a friends recommendation. I'm not close to a dealer and have a couple of questions since their site doesn't seem to provide the information.
Models: Superlight Anno, Superlight Powder, Superlight X & R -
Are all these frames the same? What are the differences in the models besides some of the components? Usually I like to compare last years models with this years model to see what improvements they have made but the came up with a new naming convention so what should I compare these models too? And have the frames changed from last year?
Any information on these bikes would be much appreciated, I see that people that have bought them seem to love their bikes, but it's tough to find more online information on them.
Thanks,

| Here ya go! | Nuget Aug 31, 2001 6:14 AM | | Alright first off let me start by saying you should check out www.santacruzmtb.com/ and check out their color picker. It'll show the bike, frame color, build kit, fork, wieght, and price of the bike. A very usefull tool and all prices are right on as to what you'll find in the stores for the most part.
Alright first off the prebuilt bikes-the Superlight R-the base model, happens to be the bike i'm looking at getting in the near future. But it's built with the X-kit(build kit) Judy XC fork and a powdercoat frame in your choice of color with a Fox vanilla R rear shock. The rear coil shock can also be swapped out for a Fox Float R for an extra $50, well worth it in my book. The Superight X is another pre built bike that comes with the Super-X kit(all build kits are listed on their site also), Sic XC fork although this may change in 02'. and I believe a Fox Float R, and also is a powdercoated frame. They also have an XTR pre built Superlight but i'm not sure on the build of it besides the XTR-build kit, Ano frame and Float RC, and probably your choice of forks, runs around or over $3000, outta my range.
The frame has been the same for the past 4 or 5 years or so besides very minor changes. They also have great customer service from what i've heard. I've emailed Scott Turner of SC plenty of times and always get a response back within a day or two. If you're the original owner the crash repalcement is something around $250 for rear triangle and $200 for front triangle. Not too bad a deal.
If you're looking for something to campare it to as far as other bikes(Single Pivot) check out the Ellsworth Isis and the Titus Loco Moto, both great bikes in everyones opinions around here. Also read up on the review board here, plenty of great reviews by knowledgable riders. Sorry to say i've only had one test ride in the streets on this bike but i've done my home work.
Hope this helps, check out the website for sure, some great info there as well.
Good Luck |
