Schwinn Moab 01 Disc vs Moab 02 Which one? 649 vs 699jtt

Supergo has the Moab1 disc for 649 and the Moab 2 for 699. Can't seem to find any reviews on the Moab 1, is it a good bike? I'm starting out but have some pretty challenging trails in the area.

Thanks

The Moab series has continually improved over the years. This year's frame is really nice; anodized, really lightweight, and looks well- made. The frame is the same for both bikes. The parts selection between both bikes is really similar. With the Moab Disc it is likely that it will weigh a little more, but its braking system is really nice (Avid Cable Disc). It is an awesome starter bike, for sure.

Do they have the moab1 disc or just the moab disc? The moab 1 is defintely worth the extra money over the moab 2. However, I think you may be talking about the moab disc, which is not quite as nice as the moab 1. Either way, they are all nice bikes, even the moab 3 will be sufficient for just about any trail out there. To give you an idea of the real pricing from 2 months ago at a local shop:

moab 1 - 950
moab 2 - 850
moab 3 - 700
moab disc - ?? no idea

Thanks, got mixed up with the year 01. It's the Moab Disc for 649.

Well in that case go with the Moab 2 and buy Avid Mechs if you want. The Moab Disc actually has lower end drivetrain components (Deore) and a lower end suspension (Manitou SX - no rebound adjust). The Moab 2 has LX/XT components and a Judy SL, which is a lot nicer and has every adjustment you could want. The mech disc brakes are only about $70 a wheel, but you will also need to change your hubs and have the wheels rebuilt if you choose to go disc later. Overall, based on ride quality, I think you will do better with the Moab 2. Have you ever riden discs? If not, you will probably like the v brakes, they put a good set on the moab 2 (avid single digits). I have been riding for 4 years and am just now going to discs, but if I were racing I would stick with the v-brakes. Really it is a matter of preference. Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to shoot me an email too.
