Anyone do custom XC Full Suspension?(11 posts)

Anyone do custom XC Full Suspension?Briny
Aug 31, 2001 5:42 AM
This was posted on the last day of the old board and got a few responses, but I'll try here one more time.

Looking for a custom XC FS due to my size 6'6" and 225lbs. Nothing "off the rack" seems to fit.

Thanks,

Briny

Hi,
well, you have 3 options:
Titus Ti Racerx, Ti front triangle, you would want the bigger downtube option

Ventana ElSaltemontes or ElFuego

I'm close... 6'4" and 210lbs. Talk to Carl Strong at Strong Racing Frames. He has a FS Ti XC racer that should be ready to go by this winter. Of course, all his frames are custom. Look him up at http://www.strongframes.com

Give Carl a call, he'll hook you up.

Is he the guy that does some welding for Titus?

His shop and the new Ibis shop are in the same building. They are both located in Bozeman Montana. So, I'm sure he's doing some things for Ibis, but not sure about Titus.... he's pretty busy filling orders and he really does do them one at a time. Call him and ask, he's a great guy to talk to.

The Maverick is also an excellent choice for FS XC. Check them out at http://www.maverickamerican.com

www.titusti.com - They will do custom from what I hear but when it gets above a certain size, they have to go to titanium.

I'm 6'5", recently had a Racer X built for me, ti front triangle (lifetime warranty), $2200 for the frame. Bike is absolutely incredible, well worth the money.

rb,

Thanks for responding. Sounds like we're close in size. How much do you weigh? have you had any problems with the ti being too flexy? How did you setup your bike? Did you go directly to Titus or through speedgoat? (picture says speedgoat). How was the custom process? Sorry for the many questions, but it's hard to find a good resource for tall riders.

Thanks,

Briny

basically, you fill out a custom order form
fax it to Chris at titus
go over the details, he draws up "your" frame based upon the data you give him, current bike dimensions, likes/dislikes, your size, fork you plan to run (very important) and then he faxes you the drawing
you bless it, give your dealer a deposit (usually about 1/2 the cost of the frame) he sends Titus a check, 4-6 weeks later your bike comes

as for Ti being flexy, well, he will use the appropriate tube specs, i.e., a larger tandem sized downtube, etc..

I have done a lot of customs, so, if I can help, please let me know
