Need some opinions
Both set ups are for a Santa Cruz Superlight and both come out to be $2300. Seems to me having Colorado cyclist build it up is better

Cassette: XT 11-34.
Shifter: LX-Rapid Fire 9-speed pods.
Deraileurs: XT front and rear.
Brakes: Avid 7 V-brakes and levers.

Just a quick question for ya. Did you talk that build out with them or is it a build kit they have set up already? Did you call and talk to them or did you ask them to just build up a kit for the same price? Thanks and good luck with your Superlight. Have fun

It's kind of give and take.

CC kit...
Better chainrings, shifters, fork
Worse rims (no mention of hubs), seatpost, handlebars, brakes/levers

A better fork is nice especially a 2002 but the wheelset has some low-end rims.

I think you would come out better if had your local dealer order you up a powder coated frame with the Float R for around $1050, you order the complete XT build kit from JensonUSA for $600, add a $400 fork and have your shop build it up for $100 or less. You also might also want to sell the XT brakes and levers on eBay and get the Avid SD7 brakes and levers at SuperGo for $65.

I'd do as CMC recommends. Too many weak links in either build for me. Especially avoid xt v-brakes. Added to the xt build kit from Jenson, you could include a Marzocchi 2001 z2 xfly for just over $300. And while you're there why not Avid mechanical discs, the only cost efficent way to go to discs is when building a new bike. Take some time and do the homework.
I don't like "build kits"Charles Coker

like you said, too many weak links
there are no "magic bullets" when it comes to parts kits
most of the time companies try to slip in a few cheap parts

I don't offer kits per se, everything is ala carte
we just go down the list and choose what you want part by part
I have a flat "fee" I charge to build a bike, I make the same on a 2500 bike or a 3500, not based on percantage, i.e., the more you spend the more I make

I will tell you my cost difference between parts and let you decide what's right for you

seems fair to me
