| Need A nice stiff frame | Pat Aug 31, 2001 3:24 PM | | Got $1000 bucks to spend on an xc hardtail. I'm looking for a bike with a really stiff durable frame. Any suggestions? |
| Ellsworth Sub22 | arch Aug 31, 2001 5:09 PM | | The damn thing only weighs 3 lbs and is supposedly very durable...
Here is the blurb from Bike:
Low weight doesn't necessarily mean high quality, but it sure is nice when those two characteristics reside in a single bike. Case in point: the Ellsworth Sub-22. At under 22 pounds this handbuilt hardtail is amazingly lighton a par, in fact, with many road bikes. While some companies sacrifice component quality for lightweight, Ellsworth has outfitted the Sub22 with a score of parts that won't leave you on the side of the trail cursing your ultralight and flimsy parts package. An proprietary cold worked taper butted frameset, SID XC fork and SRAM 9.0 SL drivetrain ensure that the Sub22 is, in fact, durable enough to withstand plenty of abuse.

| re: Need A nice stiff frame | kam Aug 31, 2001 5:11 PM | | jensonusa.com has the jamis komodo easton frame for about $190, you can get a nice sram 9.0/truvativ stylo build kit for about $550 for a total of about $740 plus shipping. find a fork that you like, and build it up and yourset. i'd get a manitou sx-r for about $110 at universalcycles.com. of course, you'll have to add shipping to all the prices, but the jamis framne is great to start off. |
