What Frame Size?the saint

Hi
How do I know which is the right size bike? Do I measure clearance over the top bar when standing flat on the ground or is there some other considerations? How much clearance is needed?

I am about 5ft 8inches tall, 140 lbs.

Thanks

... that's somewhat subjective. But here's a link that can give you some guidelines to start:

http://www.coloradocyclist.com/bikefit/

The Colorado Cyclist bikefit page gives you a good idea where to start. Bikefit, though, is very dependent upon where you ride, how you ride, and how you want to feel when you ride. For someone 5'-8", a typical "medium"/17"/18" bike would be the norm, but there are many people in that range who would choose a different size to feel comfortable. I'm 5'-6" and I feel more comfortable on a "large"/19" bike due to a longer top tube measurement.

The moral of the story is to arm yourself with info and take as many test rides as you can at your nearest LBS's. A good one can surely help you figure out what size you'd feel comfortable on.

Hope that helps,
Randy
