I AM ABOUT TO BUY A '02 TREK8500, IS IT A GOOD OPTION OR IS THERE ANOTHER FOR THE SAME BUDGET?

yes there are others in the same price range. All you have to do is look. Try Kona, Cannondale, Sprecialized, Marin, RockyMountain, SantaCruz, Titus, Dean, Giant, Gary Fisher, Klein, etc, etc, If you go to the Hotlinks in the right hand column you'll see the bike mfrs listing and you can peruse to your hearts content. Most of the bikes you see in the 8500's price range will be comprable in function as well as frame materials and compenents. You just need to find one that fits you well. Luck.
