Klein Attitude, GOOD or BAD (but certainly not ugly) (5 posts)
| Klein Attitude, GOOD or BAD (but certainly not ugly) | nicnac Jan 8, 2002 5:11 PM | | I've heard that the Klein Attitude is a fine bike for the budding uni-cyclist. Is this true? Because I was on the edge of purchasing a 2001 model for £899 before I heard the stories. |
| come again...? | Bob Jan 9, 2002 6:19 AM | | Not sure what question you're asking.
I can tell you that Kleins provide a "unique" ride in that they are very stiff, in terms of power transfer and lateral stiffness.
It's a great bike if your main goal is speed, as in beating your buddies (or opponents) to the top of long climbs. Kleins (except for the Adept) are built for all out speed and not so much comfort. They excell in tight, technical trails. If you plan on long trips, buy 2.3 tires (or in Continental tire measurements, 2.1's) and maybe a suspension seatpost too.
If you're going to race it. Just get on it and go. Fast.
I would not hesitate to buy it either way.
Good luck, and please don't fire up a blow torch and make a uni-cycle out of a fine piece of american craftsmanship.

| come again...? | nicnac Jan 9, 2002 6:07 PM | | Hi Bob and thanks for the info. Sorry for the confusion, but I have heard that under braking over a rough terrain (when the rear wheel is not always in contact with teraferma) the wheel leaves the micro dropouts and parks under the seat.
Then again it could have been the magazine test crew relying on the supplier to prep the bike (loose skewers). |
| O.k . I understand | Bob Jan 10, 2002 4:19 AM | | Originally, I wasn't a fan on the horizontal dropouts. But I've come to like them. They make taking the rear wheel off simple. Never had the problem that you described. I certainly wouldn't let my wife ride hers if I thought the rear wheel would come flying off. I imagine Klein would have gotten rid of them long ago if they had a stack of lawsuits piling up. That's the USA for ya'.
I wouldn't worry about it even for a second.
Good luck.

| No problems here either | Mossy Jan 10, 2002 11:40 AM | | Took a few months, but I really came to like the horizontal dropouts. My Adept has conventional, vertical ones, and I prefer the old style.. Pedaling forces actually drive the wheel into the frame, so I doubt what those guys are telling ya is true |
