Is it a bad idea to use bar ends with riser bars?

Handlebars are made to take a certain amount of abuse, so I don't think the little extra strain from bar ends would cause a problem. It's the only point I've seem people try to make against using them, other than some don't like the way they look on risers. But it wasn't all that long ago that many were laughing at riser bars themselves, was it. I use a wide riser bar and it has bar ends. Some don't like it, but I don't care. If my hands get tired, they give a choice of different positions. To be honest, with the riser, I don't really the bar ends much for climbing, which is their original intended use, but having a change of position sure is nice.

I don't buy the "added strain" argument at all, unless the manufacturer has something specific to say about it. I would think your bars take most of the abuse on the downhill, and the only time I use my ends are on steep climbs, or for a hand position change on a tame piece of trail.

Maybe I'm wrong about the stress thing, and if someone will point me in the direction of some tests or reasearch on this, I would like to know more. But no one has in the past.

Looks a little funny, but if it works for you...JBone
