FSR frame differences(2 posts)

FSR frame differencesGutterman

What are the differences between the FSR XC, XC PRO, and S-Works framesets? Which are M4? ('99-00)
I know in '01-02 they changed the rear link for adjustable travel, and in 02 all frames are M4. Opinions on which design (99-00), or (01-02) would be better for XC only (no freeride)?
I am looking to build a fairly light but reliable epic FS bike, any advice will be appreciated.

'00 FSR frames: only s-works are M4,others are A1 material. All with non-adjustable 76mm rear travel.

In '02 FSR: All Stumpjumper FSR's are M4 except S-works, which is M5. Rear Travel was increased to an adjustable 75-90mm, top tube was increased, new beefier linkage, and sealed bearings replaced older bushings in dropout and linkage pivot points. I have a '00 s-works and did the upgrade with BETD link and MRP dropouts.

For a light and reliable FSR, I'd recommend a '02 FSR XC with the DUKE (msrp $1510. For someone on a budget, the '02 Rockhopper FSR xc (which is really an upgraded '00 FsR)for $980 is a super deal.
