I see the 2002 model is cheaper, is the Psylo really that much better than the Black? How about other parts? I am looking for a tough freerider that I can ride XC occasional and have No Bob while pedaling.

The AC AIR series will bob because they do not share the same suspension geometry as the NRS series. Look at the pivots closely, esp. chainstay seat stay junction. In order to get no bob with an AC you would have to swap the shock for a SID w/lockout. The 2001 model also came with hydraulic hayes instead of cable avids. The is also different for 2002, the chainstays are now at the same level.

Why does everyone keep saying that the chainstays are level on the 02 models. I have seen about 20 of them and not one has level chainstays. I have heard that this may be a Canadian spec. Who knows?

As for the original question, there are a few changes that account for the price. Namely the component mix.
01-Hayes Hydros, 02-Avid Mechs $200 difference
01-Race Face stem and post, 02-Titec stuff about $80 diff
01-Cane Creek headset, 02-FSA $20-30 diff

The 02 rear triangle is also supposed to be 30% stiffer. When taking these things into account I would say get the 02 if you cant find an 01 on sale. The component changes aren't that significant in ride quality. Around here the 01's are priced about $600 less that their original price, which seems about right since the 02's are sitting right next to them in the shop.
