UMM... LITTLE HELP?(2 posts)

UMM... LITTLE HELP?Markaroni

Hey Folks...

I'm buying my first mountain bike since i was a kid - i've got the choice narrowed down to three bikes but I'm having trouble making the final choice. So can anyone out there help?

I'll be using the bike to ride to work occasionally, weekend fun, trail riding and maybe a little bit of insane crazy stuff. One factor that needs considering is my size - 6'3", 110kg.

Anyway, the choice is between these three: NORCO KOKANEE, GIANT RINCON, and TREK 4100.

The specs are pretty similar between the three - Aluminium frames, SR shocks, V Brakes, EZ fire shifters etc. The Kokanee is 24 speed as opposed to 21 for the other two. The Trek seems to have the worst shocks of the bunch, and the Kokanee has the better drivetrain.

At the moment i'm probably steering towards the Kokanee, anyone have any suggestions? With my weight do you think it's worth $200 Australian (US$100) to go for Rock Shox? (eg Giant Yukon, Norco Storm)

Thanks in advance...
Mark

Trust me, go for the upgraded fork. When it comes to shocks you get exactly what you pay for. I rode a Norco for a bunch of years and am quite a fan of their bikes. Keep in mind though that these are entry level bikes and will hold up fairly well to moderate trail riding, but will not last long if you use them for aggressive offroading.(ie. jumping, freeriding, urban assault, xc racing)
