| hunting for a frame w/a bmx bb shell | J. Whitney Jan 15, 2002 2:39 AM | | hi guys...
i'm in the market for a new frame, and i'm looking for something of the freeride hardtail variety. "Inexpensive" is criterium one. Secondary is that it has a bmx bb shell. These are relatively hard to find, and i've only seen three that have it.. Both Spooky's frames and 24's frames have them as an option, but they're rather expensive, and 24 is available only thru the UK. DMR makes a pretty nice frame, the Trailstar, which has a bmx bb shell and is steel (the frame being steel may be a tertiary criterium, as the more pounding the frame can accept, the happier i'll be), but it too is only available thru the UK and while 200 pounds (that's money, not weight, heh) is pretty cheap, and definitely in my price range, shipping the bastard from London to New York is really going to cost me. So, any suggestions on an inexpensive, (preferably) steel frame with a bmx bb (i've got a sweet set of profiles that i'm itching to use again), available in the US? I really appreciate yer info. Thx. |

| You don't need a BMX type BB shell... | D.F.L. Jan 18, 2002 6:44 AM | | If your main goal is to run those Profiles, then you can get their "euro" BB set-up. I believe that the spindle is the same, and it uses smaller diameter bearings. Is it as strong? Maybe not. Is it strong enough? Probably.
It doesn't sound like it's worth insisting on a big BB shell.
