| Truth vs. Hammerhead | Max Apr 12, 2002 7:31 PM | | What do you think is the all around better bike? I want something with Fox Float 100's on it. I like to climb and technical descend. |
| Hammerhead | Green Giant Apr 12, 2002 8:38 PM | | no question in my mind. I've owned both along with several others. Great ride, good price, great service, great backing. Check through the archives.. lots of good info. |
| re: Truth vs. Hammerhead | paulesk177 Apr 12, 2002 8:39 PM | | The Hammerhead looks a lot more appealing to me. Truths are notorious for getting dings in their top & down tubes.
Besides, Charles seems like a good guy that'll take care of ya.
Either way, you'll get a sweet ride.
Good luck. |
| good thing to keep in mind... | Louie Apr 13, 2002 10:49 AM | | "Truths are notorious for getting dings in their top & down tubes."
That is something that I don't think a lot of people realize or think about when purchasing a bike. Yeah, the Truth is super light, but I haven't ever seen one without a dent on it somewhere unless it was on a showroom floor. IMHO that bike could really use another 1/2 pound of aluminum. I put some dents on mine and was shocked at how easily it happened (call me naieve).
Oh, and no, when you dent the crap out of your frame, that is not covered under "lifetime warantee". Get a big enough dent in a bad place and you are screwed. |
| Get your facts straight.. | NoWay Apr 16, 2002 2:34 PM | | Any lightweight aluminium frame with large diameter tubing ever made by man will dent easily.
Basic knowledge about bike frames..
Oh, and the Truth makes a nice XC/trailbike for me, though the handling could be less nervous (steep head angle).
I never rode the RacerX, I`m not sure about that Mac Strut design, but most likely only very experienced riders could tell a difference between a good MS and a good walking beam design. If there is any..

| re: Truth vs. Hammerhead | Jrm Apr 13, 2002 7:38 AM | | The Truth with either the vanilla R or Romic. And a Fox Vanilla R, or RL fork. Now thats a trail bike... |
| See my post above..."Sringtime in the Great Basin" | KRob Apr 13, 2002 10:38 PM | | I have zero personal experience with the Truth, but it does look like a fine bike...light, well designed, etc. I (obviously) chose the HH. A very excellent ride, and from what I can gather from what you all are saying, more durable and better backed than Truth. Charles is great. |
| Hammerhead | DCS Apr 15, 2002 9:19 AM | | Both are excellent bikes. However, along with being more durable and having better customer service, the Hammerhead comes in more standard sizes than the Ellsworth, and a custom sized Hammerhead also is available in Ti. |
| Read Archives for HH, Reviews on Truth... | bray Apr 17, 2002 9:54 AM | | Based on the posts, seems HH is well-loved and respected as is Titus. Having owned a Loco and now a Racer-X, I can verify that the Titus product is top notch as is the company's service. Go to Product Reviews for Racer-X -- pretty positive. Lots of complaints in Product Review regarding customer service and build quality for the Truth. Why would you spend an extra $300 for a bike that is slightly lighter and offers a small amount of extra travel but with significantly less customer satisfaction? Not a slam on Ellsworth, but an observation based on the opinions of others. '01 Full Suspension Reviews - Ellsworth, 29 reviews, 4.31, Racer X, 12 reviews, 5.00.
