Don't waste your money on a FS bike under $400. It will be garbage. Entry level full suspension starts at $1000. You should get a hardtail (front suspension only) like the Trek 4500.

I wouldn't buy a FS bike under $400, I'd just keep saving my money. Maybe you should aim for the specialized rockhopper fsr which is a good FS bike just under $1000. At my lbs they're going for $850. Giant supposedly also is a good value, see what they offer.

Specialized UNO... maybe $500?
have a look at thisJimC.

Giant says its $300-600 *range* USD. I would NOT look at any FS rig that isn't a brand name, with parts and service attached to it, and a good warrranty.

For $399.99, at the local shop here in town. Doesn't look bad either, just heavy.

bring you out here to Michigan, and you would leave me in your dust!!!

you probably have muscle on top of muscle from pedaling that thing!

i, however, am a wimp...gotta have mine (somewhat) light, otherwise i cant keep up with the little old ladies on trikes.

in May I decided a lighter XC bike was in order, and grabbed a deal on a 25lb FS Kona Moko². While on my 1st ride, fell off (not MY fault) and damaged long bicep muscle and rotator cuff. DOH! Still hurts 3 months later. XC bikes are dangerous!

Being from Ontario, I know your terrain and my abilities. You'd beat me, no problem. Jim (old, slow, but smiling) C

My Bruja is upto 36lbs, and I still have a single crown on it! Makes my XC bike feel svelte at 28lbs!! =^D

Well, here's your problem...JimC.

just get a DC fork at 7-8 lb and you're there!

I'm always amazed at how "flickable" and light the Bullit feels on the trail back down, though.

Nice bike, that Bruja, Jim
Soon, hopefully...ciclistagonzo

I'm thinking of picking up a 03 Boxxer Race. Just a matter of $$$ (severe lack there of right now). Then I'll finally have a true Freeride bike, 40lbs and 6"travel front and rear!

I do understand your "Flickable" comment, as speed goes up it gets downright easy, to change directions. Lots of fun to play with though!

last AZ couple came, stayed at my house, and we broke the wife's finger and her husband left a rather expensive digital cam on the roof of the car a drove off (unrecovered, bummer). But they had a good time ;P

Boxxer Race is on the shelves here at $949 CAD, about $600 USD. I got some varying comments on it from some Colorado riders that didn't like the compression adjustments, or lack of. You might want to check that out? I'm sticking with my old Jr. T until I learn how to ride.
Cheers, Jim
LOL! I saw that in Passion..ciclistagonzo

I made sure my wife didn't see that post! Hope she healed ok.

I've heard mixxed reviews here in Nor Cal as well, but my investment would be significantly less than $600, so it might be worth it, Especially since I've had very good luck with RS products, I know, I seem to be the only one.

To early to speculate anyway, I won't have $$ until January.
Although it does sound like I'll be Vancouver bound, either for spring break or summer, just now sure how much time I'll have to ride (Family Vacation)

Find a giant dealer and see if they have any Warp DS3s...DeeEight

on sale. I got one locally (in canada mind you) on sale and it was
just about $400 US equivalent before tax. Pretty good value for a freeride setup FS bike.

Alternatively if you're thinking more XC-ish, find a base model Jamis
Dakar on sale.
