Uzzi SL or Tracer(5 posts)

Uzzi SL or TracerBlueWRX
Aug 3, 2002 3:40 PM
I'm in need of a fs frame and trying to decide between the two.
I ride mostly technical single track with the occaisional high speed descents. I am 6'-1" and 220 lbs so my question is which frame would suit me better? Which one would stand the abuse longer?
Any input would certainly help.
Thx

the intense tracer and the uzzi sl are the same frame designs. The uzzi is built up a little stronger and heavier, and has a coil shock instead of the tracer's air shock. a coil shock is better for heavier riders and more abuse. in the end its really a toss-up. however if you want less maintenance, more burliness, and arent tooo picky about weight, get the uzzi..

Thanks for the advice.
Would you say climbing abilities are about the same?
(I'm not racing or anything)Lets say we compare these two to the Stumpjumper and the Enduro - they say the geometrie of the Enduro is a bit more chalenging on the ascents...I am wondering if that's the same for the Uzzi SL?

unless you like quicker slow speed steering.

I considered the Uzzi SL, but the factory guys told me to get the Tracer due to all the climbing I must do on nearly every ride near home (2000 vertical on shorter rides). I'm 200 lbs 6'1 on a large Tracer for a year now, my third fully, and by far the best for all around trail riding, and long loose (or smooth) condition climbs, and roller-coaster downhills. It handles unreal, super smooth riding with little bob (especially with a Vanilla-R), brakes without skipping the rear, corners on rails.

The Uzzi SL has about a half degree slacker head angle with the same fork (which can be steepened up to the slack Tracer adjustment). Like my Tracer it probably has a little more travel than listed, like over 5 inches. It should climb very well too. But the steering would be a bit slow for granny gear steep climbing, but more stable at high speeds.

For you, like me, it would come down to the amount of climbing. For technical desert riding with steep rock drops the SL would be perfect for XC, Tracers like the mountain epics. Looks like a medium SL would fit about the same as a large Tracer.

I have an UZZI-SL and love it in every situation. My previous bike was a 26 LB. xc oriented f/s I-Drive. And I thought that the SL would be a problem with climbing because of the slack head angle and the extra weight.Well the SL comes in at 28.5 LBs and I really dont notice the extra weight it climbs great. The real joy is the technical down hills that it just soaks up.I am 6'0" 205LBs and I went with a large and its perfect.I also pondered on getting the tracer but I wanted something a little more beefy for my weight.Haveing broke two I-Drives I was kinda leary at the light weight x/c bikes. And the extra travel is a big plus for a someone in my weight class.
