Turner O2 - What is the best fork? 100mm or 80mm(8 posts)

Turner O2 - What is the best fork? 100mm or 80mmCC
Nov 26, 2002 7:39 PM
Just bought a used O2 from a friend and have to build it up. I ride rocky/rooty and fast single track. I'm about 190lbs. Can I put a 100mm up front or do I need to go 80mm? Also, any recommendations? I love the Fox Float R but can't find one. Anybody want to sell one? Thanks
80 mm per Turner's siteDoug in CO

www.turnerbikes.com recommends using 80 mm fork to maintain correct geometry. I have a Turner Burner w/ an 80mm fork and stood over the same bike with a 100 mm fork and thought the bike was a bigger frame.

enjoy your bike!
You don't need to go 80mm ...dogbert

but it's probably your best bet since it's what the frame was designed for. I've read where some folks have put the XCE rockers on an O2 and run a 4" fork up front, but this won't mean you're riding a lightweight XCE. On the O2, Turner recommends a fork that's betw/ 17.4-18". The reason I would stick with what Turner says is this is approx 20mm shorter than their XCE fork recommendation, and I can vouch that the XCE handles best based on what Turner suggests. I tried running the XCE with a longer fork (5") after having it at 4", and for all-around use I came to detest the handling with more travel.

You could always call Turner and ask the same question. They're always helpful on the phone.
I use a 4in. forkozone

Ive got an 02 with the XCE rockers.I use the Atom Race 100.I have the preload set so it sags about an inch and it works fine. The steering may be a tiny bit slow riding up the super steep, but Im able to compensate and I need all that travel for the rocky, technical trails I like.Your choice should depend on how you intend to use the bike. You will love the bike. They dont get any better than this.

Turner will no doubt insist on the 80mm.
I run an 80mm Manitou BLACK Super Air
on my 02 and it tracks like a dream. You'll
be surprised what the 02 will handle on the trail
even with a scant 80mm of travel. Turner's bikes are
so well-tuned, you'll feel like it's more than 3".

And don't worry, you'll be able to keep up
with your bigger travel buddies just fine.

Stick with 80mm and enjoy your Turner :)

I've been happy with an Atom Race 80 on my O2. Tracks well, and I don't ever feel like I need more travel. Low maintenance, too.

I've been riding my new 02 with an 80 mm fox float, and it handles great. Heard that I could kick this up to the 100mm setting and get rockers for the rear (to match the front), but have not yet experienced any reason to do so.

I totally agree with some of the other responses.you'll be amazed at how much the 3.1 (in the rear) and the 80mm in the front will handle. I ride in the northeast, and we have plenty of varying terrain, and this rig rocks on anything I throw at it.

The front is very stable with 80mm up front.especially the fox!

One note.not sure if you have the fox or cane in the back, but adjust the pressure according to sag (25% of stroke), this provided me with the best all around feel and control.

Good luck and enjoy the ride..its a great bike!
