| Santa Cruz colors..."Trans" red? | Jaak Nov 27, 2002 7:30 AM | | Any body know what the "Trans." stands for in the color lineup for Santa Cruz bikes? They offer "Trans" red and just red. |
| re: Santa Cruz colors..."Trans" red? | Hilltop Ski & Bike Nov 27, 2002 8:23 AM | | Trans apparently means Transparent. Here is the color on a new Blur we just got in. |
| Anodising on SC's | martin Nov 27, 2002 8:29 AM | | I've heard rumours about the anodizing on Santa Cruz's chipping off. Is this true or is it a thing of the past. I'm wanting to get a Blur and from the picture above it looks pretty amazing in that Trans Red colour. |
| Anodising on SC's | Nuget Nov 27, 2002 8:36 AM | | I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the powdercoat chipping off. As for that I don't think it's a problem. My '00 SC Heckler is doing fine, no chips yet. Frame might be a bit duller in color than it was brand new but the red is still red enough for me.
Anodizing is a process that tampers with the metal itself and changes the color so there is no way an anodized color can chip off. Although it can wear away fairly easy with cable rub and on the chainstays from you shoes rubbing from what i've heard.
Hope this helps |
| Hmmm, that is a nice color . . . | Motivated Nov 27, 2002 9:48 AM | | . . . maybe I should get me one of those!
I think "trans" is for transition because it seems kinda orange. Based on the picture. |
| re: Santa Cruz colors..."Trans" red? | stompy Nov 27, 2002 11:41 AM | | have any more pictures of that trans red frame that you can post?
thanks! |
| Here's a more accurate color pic | Toxic Nov 27, 2002 4:00 PM | | That Trans Red is a great color but I think the previous pic looks more orange because of the flash. Here's Trans Red on a Heckler at Interbike that looks more accurate.

| trans as in ... | puffy Nov 27, 2002 9:21 AM | | trans am red.
i thiink that's what they are referring to. probably trying to market to the baby boomers with cash, since the trans am was a popular car of that era.
i could be wrong tho.

| "trans" ---> TRANSPARENT | gonzostrike Nov 27, 2002 9:45 AM | | check out the Trans Red and Trans Gold frames, you can see through the powdercoat down to the silver color of the aluminum tubing.
this gives the finish a pearlescent/semi-metallic/wet&deep appearance.
the coating is very thin and should not be confused with any sorts of custom, multi-coated paint jobs. |
| Thats correct... | esquire Nov 27, 2002 10:00 AM | | Its actually quite impressive to see up close. The pics are incredible, but do it NO justice. They also have the Trans-Blue, which I can only imagine how nice that would look. Interestingly, the Heckler isn't comming in anodized colors. Not sure of the reason though. |
| Translucent ... | dogbert Nov 27, 2002 2:38 PM | | saw a Marin steel hardtail in translucent red that someone I've occasionally ridden with was selling. If it was my size I would've purchased it on the spot to use as an alternate bike. The way it looked under sunlight was cool. |
| re: Santa Cruz colors..."Trans" red? | dirttorpedo Nov 27, 2002 4:20 PM | | I think it stands for translucent.
Transparent = allowing light to pass through so that bodies can be distinctly seen. Easily seen through.
Translucent = allowing light to pass through diffusely. Semi transparent.
Sorry for being anal. Flame away. |
