| $2300.00 TO BLOW | DIRTMURDERER Nov 28, 2002 6:46 PM | | I AM LOOKING AT A SANTA CRUZ SUPERLIGHT. I DO MOSTLY XC RIDING AND WANT TO GET INTO RACING. I HAVE $2300.00 TO SPEND AND I WAS WONDERING IF THIS IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR REC. AND RACING PURPOSES, OR IF THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE THAT ARE BETTER. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE. |
| Thats a good choice........... | The Truth Nov 29, 2002 1:03 PM | | Another would be an Ellsworth Isis.

| you might also want to take a look at the Titus Racer-X | loop Nov 29, 2002 4:37 PM | | Great XC & racing bike. May be a little out of your price range, though. Frame only is about $500 more expensive than the superlight. |
| re: $2300.00 TO BLOW | dakar_rider Nov 30, 2002 3:03 AM | | If I could blow $2300 away I would get a Santa Cruz Blur, the suspension is one of the most advanced and weights is about the same of a hardtail. If you don't like Santa Cruz check the Intense Spider VPP, it's the same technology but the Intense looks beefier.
I saw the Blur frame at $1,295, so if you do your homework you may end up with an awsome bike. |
| You know, I think he means 2300 for the complete bike... | æon Dec 1, 2002 3:37 PM | | A high end frame like the Blur/Ellsworth/Intense wouldn't leave much for anything else.
Check out the Giant NRS, Trek Fuel, and Gary Fisher Sugar. If you can find one, you could probably get an amazing deal on a 2002 FSR. If you buy a last season's model, 2300 will get you the best of the best.
Also, the 2003 Iron Horse Hollowpoint series looks VERY promising. They're a very good value, the specs are amazing, and the suspension design is a good one. www.ironhorsebikes.com
I personally would stay away from the new crop of fs bikes (blur, epic, etc...) Even if they do work, they're still overpriced, unproven, and WAY overhyped.
Don't worry about the infamous pedal bob, most current xc designs are very efficient and will do you just fine. If you ride in the wet/steeps at all, look for either avid mecanical disks, or full hydraulic. If you're a heavier rider, you might want to stay away from SID's and go with something like a black or a fox fork. If you have money left over save some weight by replacing any generic seat/post/stem/bar, and invest in a nice ligh wheelset if you don't have one. |
