| Blur sizing concerns.....measurements? | jubilee Mar 9, 2003 9:45 PM | | Hi all,
I have a med Blur on order, and recently I started freaking out about ordering the med size. I am 5'10" w/ 31 or 32" inseam. My intention was to somewhat reproduce the more upright riding position that I enjoyed while demoing the Kona dawg. Got myself the RF airalloy riser bar and will use the shop's "sizing stem" to figure which stem to buy.
I am wondering what range of heights and inseams out there bought either med or large, and how you like the fit. Thanks in advance for your info. |
| Here's mine... | Darrell Mar 10, 2003 6:15 AM | | On my medium Superlight which has the same dimensions as the Blur, I ran a 100mm stem for a "not too stretched out but racey" position. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam. The medium Blur should fit you fine with about a 120-130mm stem. |
| what I did | Wasatch Walt Mar 10, 2003 8:19 AM | | I'm about 5'11" with a 31" inseam ..... but ... well consequently .. I have a VERY LONG back ... I got the Large Blur ... with a 125mm stem and it fits great. .... go look at the effective top tube lengths of the Blur, between the Medium and Large. .... and then look at the bike you have now and perhaps go with the closest numbers. |
| thanks Walt | JimC. Mar 10, 2003 6:37 PM | | we zackly the same 5'11" and 31' inseam. the Medium Blur I borrowed with a 90mm stem a flat bars just feels small. I'm used to a large Bullit with 70mm stem and 2" risers, a bit different "feel".
I can see some serious pharting around is about to happen to get me to the right feel.

| re: Blur sizing concerns.....measurements? | laffeaux Mar 10, 2003 11:24 AM | | I'm 6'0" and have a 34.5" inseam. I purchased a large Blur and currently have a 130mm stem on it. I've tried it with a 110 and 120mm stem also. the 110 is too short, and the 120 felt okay too. I'm still trying to decide between the 120 and 130 stems. |
| I'm not so sure thats the right size for you..... | esquire Mar 10, 2003 12:24 PM | | Call SC about it, but I'm 5'10" with a 30 inseam, and the medium I rode a little felt like I was over the bars too much with a 120 mm stem. I'd prefer to be able to adjust a larger frame with shorter stems, etc, than I would smaller frame and longer stems. But....if you are in that middle ground, its all personal preference. My time on the Blur was limited though, so it may have worked out fine. I'm just used to a little less up on the front wheel. |
| re: Blur sizing concerns.....measurements? | Dave from Derry Mar 10, 2003 3:13 PM | | I am 6' with 33" inseam. I have a large Blur with a 110 stem and an easton lo rise bar that fits great. I am going to try a 120 stem and see how that feels but for the most part the bike feels awesome as is. |
| Thanks for the info! | jubilee Mar 10, 2003 6:52 PM | | Thanks for the info! I have now firmly decided that I am between sizes. Off to measure my current hardtail. |
| Thanks for the info! | Roadkill Mar 12, 2003 4:44 PM | | I'm exactly your height, between 5'-10" to 5'-11". I originally ordered the Medium, but a friend of mine who has a Large suggested I get a Large too. So I emailed Santa Cruz and they responded with something like this. It depends on the type of riding you do. If you like tight switchbacks, then go with a Medium. If you climb alot and like fast descents, go with the Large. However, Santa Cruz recommends a Large for anyone who is on the borderline of the two sizes. I went with a Large and it feels great. I think the Medium would have been a bit small for me. I suggest a Large for you as well, I ride tight switchbacks as well as lots of climbs and fast fire road descents, and it's been great. Contact Santa Cruz if you're still unsure. |
