xce ok with romic?(18 posts)

xce ok with romic?fullsuspfuture
Mar 10, 2003 1:02 PM
I finally got a call that my Supergo XCE will ship!

But, apparently Supergo XCEs now ship with romic since the fox may no longer be available. So they called to make sure I still want it with a romic.

Should I have any concerns? I did verify that it still has 4" suspension so this means it should have the 'romic rockers'.

A minus maybe is that some people say the fox shock works better on the xce.
A plus maybe at least I've got the rockers to be able to use a more standard shock if I ever had problems and needed another shock?

Anyone know what romic spring a 150lb rider would need? (I'll have to wait till I get it to know what spring it comes with)

thanks
Just got the same callpiggy

From what I understand this is a good thing. The romic is supposed to be great with this bike. They are coming on the new 5spot. I am pumped. It was a 400 buck option for free
Romic should work great!CTRider

That's normally an upcharge isn't it?

could be divine intervention for your long waits!!!

Its about time, huh? You must be relieved finally! So, how long you think it will take to get to you? 5 business days for me so, that probably means next Monday. The Romic should be awesome! Lucky us :)

or however the saying goes. While I still maintain the XCE does not *need* a Romic, I don't think it will hurt the bike and you are totally correct that it makes your shock options more flexible in the future. Consider it a great windfall.

Hey Tscheezy did you get my email yesterday? (nm)CTRider

but had not responded yet. Sounds like you got a sweet setup there! A little good karma coming back at'cha. It was time for a break.

Thanks,

Cool, I sent it from home using work email so I wasn't sure.....CTRider

glad you received it and yes.....some good Karma is flowing in my general direction and I'm soaking it in. Feels kinda good.

Now if I could just find a cute, friendly, intelligent, single female mountain biker out on the trails this season who digs a guy in his mid-thirties with two sons, two dogs and a cat and I'm all set! LOL

And Woo Hooo.........MTBR is back running at full steam again.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks,
I guess I've been a bit suspicious of things that seem to good to be true... but I'll think positive.
Of course the proof will be in the puddle (or is it pudding) once it is built up and on the trail.

Even though it is what you expect, it is great that Supergo called to check!

Now I just need to order up an XT package, a Fox 100 Vanilla RLC and perhaps some avids mech discs I'll be all set...
Did you really expect the Romic?! or do you mean the XCEKpicha

in general? I'm really interested to see how it will compare to the Hollowpoint since that's what I'm coming off of.
Casey at Turner subtley (sp?) hinted that the Romic might be on the XCE but I wasn't sure if I was just reading into things so I didn't want to get my hopes up or say anything.

Sounds like you're going to have an awesome build! I hope it gets built up and ridden soon!

Hi,
For the 'what you expect', I mean that since what Supergo was going to ship was not exactly what I ordered, I think it is great they called to see if I still wanted it, or if I wanted to cancel.

In a sense it is normal they do call, but sometimes I might expect some big mail order place to not even notice and just ship whatever as long as it is close enough...!

I really had no idea it might come with a romic!

I'm still a bit undecided on the brakes. I'm tempted to go with some v-brakes to keep the weight down and simplicity, although most people I hear who have got discs never go back, and the avid mech discs should still be relatively simple....

And if I was serious about the weight I should have gone for on 02 or burner, plus air shock/fork.

I dunno, does anyone here do rides with 5000-6000ft climbing with 28-30lb bikes? Maybe I'll save my hardtail for that, if I don't get in shape for it on a midweight fully... unless perhaps the comfort and plushness will compensate and make up for the extra weight!

Well they'll be nothing better than to just give it a try!
After 5-6k' of climbing comes 5-6k' of descending...Tscheezy

and you will want the Turner for the downhills! I only use my hardtail for road touring now. The Avid disc's rule, but there are others that weigh about the same as V's, or if you already have V's to use in the mean time, maybe wait for the Avid hydros.

thanks for all the tips so farfullsuspfuture

Definitely thanks for all the tips so far.

I've got stashed away a zerks maintenance print-out, as well as the definite guide to turner rockers/shocks/xce/o2/burner mix&match printout.

Now I'll just have to go browse around on brakes for avid mech setup hints and the best housing to use...

cheers
Holy Cow, you're really into the Turners!Kpicha

That would be great to post that info. in a "public" place somewhere, although, I'm sure you wouldn't want to give up your hard work that easily.

Oh, you definitely won't regret using disc brakes! and you might even wonder why you didn't switch sooner :) I doubt you'll even notice the weight difference.

Cheers,
Kristina
The Hilltop boys have some good XT packages in case youCTRider

want to contact them for a quote.....they carry Turners so they'd know what size components you'd need etc. etc.

Just a thought.

Enjoy the crap out of that Romic-equipped XCE!

I guess I don't need that other spring then :)
xce GREAT with romicmtbtank

I've only been able to ride twice since getting my XCE due to snow, but the Romic is sweet! I can't compare it to the Fox but envy you the freebie - I paid the uptick for it - but I'm not complaining. I love the way it works and I know even from brief rides that it will be worth it. I've got an 800lb(!) spring for my 215lb body, so I can't speak to the 500lb for you. I just talked to Casey at Turner to get a little more insight on the spring & he explained the Romic spring weights are significantly higher than Fox because of the longer rocker/greater leverage. I may even to bump up to a 900# but haven't ridden enough to know.
appr. 150 km with XCE & Romicbxex

I rode appr. 150 km with my new XCE & Romic. Up to now I have had no problems. The rear suspension is very sensitiv. My weight is 205 lb and I am considering to change from the 800# spring to a stronger one too (like mtbtank), because I would like to have less sag & less spring preload.
