My new XCE, yes it's more Turner Porn, but I had to! (18 posts)
| My new XCE, yes it's more Turner Porn, but I had to! | DanB Mar 10, 2003 2:27 PM | | Now once the snow melts I can ride the thing on more than just a road ride. It came out at 28 pounds even, and should be pretty much the ultimate trailbike. I also built up a heavier set of rims for when I want to get a little (very little) more aggro. Thanks for looking!!!

| That is really cool! It looks like SantaCruz's Rootbeer | Kpicha Mar 10, 2003 5:21 PM | | I like that! |
| Now THAT is a... | Duckman Mar 10, 2003 7:55 PM | | ...good looking bike. Well(in my eyes/taste) balanced look from the the suspension settings, bars color choice, post, stem, fork, wheelset, etc. I liked it so much I saved it to my hard drive. I do that sometimes when an exceptional bike comes along that floats my boat, so to speak. Use'm for reference, and just to admire.
One of the best looking bikes I've seen.
Whats tires are those? Look light but appear to offer relatively good traction. Explorer SS's? Schwb James Gang? (or something like that) |
| Tires | DanB Mar 11, 2003 5:37 AM | | They are Hutchinson Mosquito Air Lights (great traction, great weight), converted to tubeless with Stan's NoTubes. The tires weigh 480 grams, the tubeless strips and latex weigh 120 grams combined. I also built a set of F219 with Hope hubs shod with 2.3" Nokian Gazzoladdi Cores for heavier duty stuff. I will also run those tubeless with Stan's kit.
Come the dryer days of summer I will switch the lighter wheelset's tires to Hutchinson Python Air Lights, of course converted to tubeless with Stan's also.
Thanks for all the nice comments everybody, I am an extremely proud owner!!! |
| aaaaaahhh | Duckman Mar 11, 2003 8:52 AM | | I tried the Mosq. Golds awhile back and wasn't too impressed. I think I had to much tire pressure tho, and was riding w/ a broken collarbone, so I was ride'n scared then. Using the Python Airlights at the moment mnted to some VXC rims on AMClassic hubs and love'm.
Enjoy your new bike. |
| re: My new XCE, yes it's more Turner Porn, but I had to! | DanB Mar 10, 2003 6:53 PM | | It's actually gloss black, I just suck at taking pictures, and basically posting them too as I have now found out.
The stickers are the cool part, they are black stickers with a silver outline, the black of the stickers is kind of flat, so up close (not in these pics fer shure) it looks really, really cool!!!
I am so excited about this bike, I can't wait until I can hit some dirt with it. April will hopefully bring either a trip to Moab (to chase hfly) or Missouri to the Berryman Trail. I am snowed in right now in Minnesota.
Tscheezy pointed out that I have a ton of seatpost sticking out, I've since got the saddle down to the right height, these pics were snapped right after I got finished building it and hadn't set it up for me yet (call that premature new bike excitement if you will).
Take care all!!! |

| <b>Dont hesitate to post more pics</B> | TM Mar 11, 2003 2:22 AM | | Turners are one of my favorite bikes. I like the colour black after the Hot red Turners I have seen! |
| <b>Dont hesitate to post more pics</B> | DanB Mar 11, 2003 5:39 AM | | I have to give tscheezy kudos for the pics (thanks!!!), I tried a few times and failed miserably to post some, which may be a good thing otherwise you would all get sick of me posting pics ;) |
| I'd be happy to slap a few more up... | Tscheezy Mar 11, 2003 11:48 AM | | if you want to send them to me. The one you sent me before was quite large so I cropped it and reduced the file size also. mtbr won't accept a pic over 200kb, so that is most likely the prob. Send me more if you want. We all like to see them. Some closeups or interesting angles are always nice.

| XCE, where did you get that frame, everybody seems to be out.. | DanB Mar 12, 2003 9:12 PM | | I ordered it in November from a friend who owns a LBS, I got it for $1356.00 (I guess you call that a "bro" deal???), so I didn't get the $1200.00 deal like some, but he is a good guy and he needs to make a living too so it's all good. It didn't get here until late January though. |
