Racer X Wheel Set(3 posts)

Racer X Wheel Setyooper

I'm about to order a Racer X but can't decide on which wheel set to put on it. I plan on racing and the two options I'm looking at are the Bontrager Racelite Tubeless or Bontrager Mustangs with XT hubs. Would I be better off in the long run getting the Mustangs and using Stans, or should I go tubeless to begin with?

I just got my Racer X last week and it's awesome. The only weakness I can find is that every time I try to turn it towards home it pulls me the other way :) I ordered mine with the XTR/Mavic 317 wheelset and will be installing Stan's NoTube system. This not only lets me run the lighter wheelset but also a lot lighter tires (like my 385 gram Kenda Kozmic Lites or 480gram Kenda Kharma 2.0's). The UST tubeless tires are all really heavy (think 600+grams). I'm not too familiar with the Mustangs but my wife has the Bontrager Valiants and they are super lite and have held up great. Check out the reviews on the Racelite Tubeless on this site. They look okay to me if you're a light weight (sub 160lb) rider.

Stans method is good I would stay awy from the regular tubless. I own a pair of Cross max , and Huogi 240 on mavic 517. which are lighter than the cross and faster and stiffer. I suggest the 240 with stan's system or Notubes
