| Headset color opinions | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 7:48 AM | | Ok, everyone. Since I'm getting the metallic silver XCE and I have candy red forks, I'm thinking about getting a Chris King headset in something other than black or silver. Just trying to add a little color and variety. :) I have in mind red, patriotic and just to shake things up a little, rasta. What do you all think?
Cheers,
Kristina |

| Can you post a pic of a Metallic Silver XCE and that could help | CTRider Mar 11, 2003 8:05 AM | | us chime in on what head set to go with. What is the fork that will be going up front?
And what's the latest on delivery Kristina? Looking like a St. Patrick's day delivery perhaps? If so, how about a Green headset! LOL |
| LOL-Nooo, I think I'll pass on the green :) | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 10:40 AM | | Good idea, though. Do they even have green?! My forks are Manitou Black Super Air (candy red)
WEll, for the sake of time (or lack thereof), this is the first picture I found but I have seen a better picture (not that this one isn't good). Shipping is supposed to take 5-8 business days from CA so, I guess the earliest it would be here is next Monday but most likely it'll be Wednesday or Thursday. I don't have a confirmed date yet. My husband is off work next Friday so, I can drive him nuts and spend the whole day getting the bike built up while he deals with the kids- hee, hee :)

| Hmmmm........looking at that frame and the black rockers etc.... | CTRider Mar 11, 2003 10:48 AM | | I have to recommend staying with classic black Kristina....especially since you might get a different fork sometime down the road and then the red might not look so hot.
Sometimes classic combinations speak volumes over colorful ones........just my two cents.
Black and red make for a really nice combo.....especially when combined with Metallic Silver!
As for green........obviously I was just kidding, but I'm sure they do have green....green is one of the rasta colors right? so they must have all green too.
If I ever win the lottery or something my dream ride will be a custom Retrotec Single Speed with custom Irish themed paint.....perhaps a green, orange and white combo with a green CK headset and maybe some green shamrocks, or celtic spirals, knots or crosses thrown into the design........One can dream right!?
Slainte!

| Hmmmm........looking at that frame and the black rockers etc.... | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 11:35 AM | | I'm not quite sure what to think of that but, one thing for sure, no one will ever question your heritage! and you could even have a green headset, too! :)
Oh yeah, the Romic on it is red. |
| Red all the way!! | Edub Mar 11, 2003 8:40 AM | | I just got my metallic silver XCE also and I put a red Chris King headset on it. It looks very sweet with red King disc-o-tech hubs and the red in the vanilla fork. I highly recommend a red headset with the metallic silver.
I'll try to get a pic of my XCE on here in the next few days.
Edub |
| Sounds sweet! | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 11:41 AM | | I can't wait to see a picture of it! |
| That headset will outlast just about any frame, so pick a | Mackie Mar 11, 2003 9:05 AM | | color that might go with something else.
I say Patriot, or Silver. |
| Good point. That was one of my thoughts, too (nm) | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 10:50 AM | | |
| some fade in color | derby Mar 11, 2003 10:22 AM | | My black CK headset is turning grey with age. It's only 1.5 years old, but it's already had a very hard life! (Maybe from the wires for handlebar lights rubbing on it.) My old 2 year old silver one (awaiting another bike) still looks new.
Red might turn pink. I like one color bikes, but I'm a boring geek.

| some fade in color-Really?, oh boy, that's not good | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 10:55 AM | | I wonder how many others have experienced that. Do you live in CA,TX or FL where the sun shines forever? :) If that's the case, I might not have anything to worry about. |
| LOL, but the glare from the snow could make it fade too! | CTRider Mar 11, 2003 10:57 AM | | I wouldn't think a CK headset would fade though.....but then again......what the hell do I know about headsets! LOL |
| My 5 year old "red" FSA is a nice orange-pink now (NM) | Mackie Mar 11, 2003 11:09 AM | | |
| LOL, took me a minute, but I got it :) | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 11:18 AM | | I think we're done with the snow for a while now (I hope anyway) |
| I have 3 silver king headsets (a 4th on the way)... | Tscheezy Mar 11, 2003 11:12 AM | | and one is 11 years old and looks as good as the day I bought it. I am not a fan of annodized components in general because fashion changes. Silver (or black) is always classy.

| Yeah, I knowwww (hanging head and drooping shoulders) | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 11:22 AM | | But I've always been a more traditional, conservative type so, this is going to be a little bit of the devil coming out in me. ;) |
| You could always ride like the devil and keep it classic | CTRider Mar 11, 2003 11:25 AM | | as I'm sure that xCE is going to inspire you to ride like a woman possesed (I mean that in the kindest sense btw!)!
Cheers,

| LOL-You crack me up!! | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 11:38 AM | | My son thinks I'm nuts laughing out loud at the computer every five minutes! |
| I have 3 silver king headsets (a 4th on the way)... | Excuse Me Mar 11, 2003 11:23 AM | | Second that. Stick with silver or black because they'll go with ANY bike scheme you would ever want to throw together. Let the other components (bars, stems, etc.) add splahes of red or whatever color you dig. BTW, my black CK looks brown after 2 years of SOCAL. sun.
You go Kristina! |
| I have the same fork... | iride Mar 11, 2003 12:32 PM | | and have a black King headset on my bike which is a really nice contrast to the candy red color. But, if you want something different, try the red one (is it the same shade red as the fork?). Congrats on your new ride and an excellent choice on your fork. |
| Thanks! (nm) | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 5:01 PM | | |
| any color you want, as long as it's black | laffeaux Mar 11, 2003 2:02 PM | | Just because you have a silver bike and a red fork now does not mean that you'll always have that combo. I prefer a safe color (black in my case) for all headsets so that they don't look mismatched in the future.
The patriot and rasta colors seem to look better off the bike then on. Once you throw a head tube and stem between the headset parts it looks a bit mismatched.
I'm generally one of the last people to be overly concerned about matching, but on headsets and stems I always go black. |
| Agree.....black goes with anything/everything nm. | Fuelish Mar 11, 2003 2:48 PM | | |
| Hmmm, well, I got no votes on the rasta | Kpicha Mar 11, 2003 5:13 PM | | a couple of votes for the red or patriotic and a whole bunch for black or silver (even though I was trying to avoid those). It seems like the classy look is better liked than a splash of color.
I'll wait until Edub posts his pictures to see what the red looks like but right now I'm leaning towards the black and the patriotic (for sentimental reasons). This may just come down to what kind of mood I'm in when I order :) Typical woman, I guess.
Its fun seeing what everyone likes (or doesn't like)! Thanks for all your input!
Cheers,
Kristina |
| Can't go wrong with basic black (pic inside) | Anonymous Gerbil Mar 11, 2003 5:49 PM | | Just my opinion, but black goes with just about any other color.

Do this: after uploading and mtbr gives you the pic address you are supposed to paste into the image location field, do the following instead. You are going to paste it into the message text area and surround it with the html tags shown below in blue:
The red stuff is an example of the address mtbr gives you to paste. Make sure you surround the image location exactly has described. No extra spaces or leaving out the space between "img" and "src". After you are done, just post the message and the pic will appear.

| Tscheezy Rules da Boards! | RFX-er Mar 11, 2003 8:41 PM | | I'll be so happy if this works!
The black offers a classic contrast and will match everything you bolt to your XCE. Have fun Kristina! Thanks Tscheezy for the image primer :) |
| One more option Kristina (pic) | RFX-er Mar 11, 2003 8:51 PM | | Here's another option for your patriot theme.
I'm usually a black and grey guy but just had to get this Merckx last Summer! |
| RFX-er- coincidense | DIRTJUNKIE Mar 11, 2003 11:07 PM | | Not to get off track but that Merckx Team bike is what my sister just bought. She is racing for the Denver Spoke and she just e-mailed me a picture of that bike yesterday. |
| Too bad I can't mix and match the parts... | Kpicha Mar 12, 2003 4:39 AM | | I'd be perfectly happy with the black cups and a red top (is that called the stem cap?) I think I'll pass on the patriot - I don't think the blue on the bottom will be very "eye pleasing" with the red forks.
Then again, Mango might be an option ;-) Just kidding! |
| You CAN match parts in the way you described. | Mackie Mar 12, 2003 5:57 AM | | If you call King, they will sell you any color top cap that you want. |
| You CAN match parts in the way you described. | Kpicha Mar 12, 2003 6:59 AM | | Really? That's good to know. I'll give them a call to see how much they are. If they're not unreasonable, I might go for that.
Thanks for the info.!
Cheers,

| re: Headset color opinions | BlackOut Mar 12, 2003 7:33 AM | | I've got the same color frame. I'm going with a Vanilla fork so it will be black.
I'm doing RASTA, it matches the turner logo; but it just gives that hint of style. Slap on a blue lizard skin on the chainstay and it will look just rockin'
Otherwise black. The shades red on the fork and CK will probably clash |
| re: Headset color opinions | Kpicha Mar 12, 2003 8:21 AM | | Rasta matches the Turner logo? I thought the logo was going to be black with silver? Which shock did you end up going with ? The Romic or the Fox? |
| I think the Turner Logo on the headtube has red, green, black, | CTRider Mar 12, 2003 2:25 PM | | blue and white in it doesn't it? I've seen the downtube logos in black, polished, and black with polish outlining........are there other Turner Logo downtube colors as well? Yellow perhaps on older black frames?
Kristina, ultimately you must choose what feels right and fits your style!!
Have fun!
Mark |
| Oh, duh, my misunderstanding. I see now. | Kpicha Mar 12, 2003 6:43 PM | | I didn't even think about the colors on the headtube badge. This is silly of me to be agonizing over this! Oh well, we'll see.
Thanks!

| re: Headset color opinions | Blackout Apr 10, 2003 4:43 AM | | I wanted the the Fox Vanilla R125; but the shop had the RLC in stock so I bit the bullet and upgraded. The rasta Headeset mates well. I just need to change the colour of the tires and saddle; which have Red in them. |
| You might consider pewter, its a.......... | The Truth Mar 12, 2003 10:14 AM | | slight change from silver and still looks classy. I have a pewter headset and and matching pewter hubs on my black ano bike.......it looks very slick imo.
