| Thats why im asking | AREUBLIND Jun 10, 2003 8:32 AM | | Im asking what i should do are there any freeride bikes that are cheap thats what this forum is for what "bike to buy" read |
| Simple.... | BabyJingo Jun 10, 2003 8:58 AM | | Either ride it the way it was designed to be ridden, i.e. XC (and hope you haven't already set it up for premature catastrophic frame failure), OR, sell it and buy a bike for big drops - and, no, there are no "cheap" freeride bikes - it takes $$$ to build a worthy frame and to replace parts as they get trashed....if you ain't got the money, you ain't playing, honey :) Have you tried asking for advice over at the FR/DH forum ??? Cheers |
| Simple.... | freeridekid Jun 14, 2003 7:18 AM | | Are you serious if you ain't got the money u ain't playing honey are you a homo go away |
| If you're strapped for cash... | XJt Jun 10, 2003 10:46 AM | | ...you can always get a cheap dirt-jumpin' hardtail that will handle a fair share of mid-sized drops and stunts.
Don't listen to those magazine guys that think you need to drop 2-3k on a jacked up "Freerider" like a Bullit, ID, or Slayer.
There are alot of guys getting 8 - 10 feet of air on hybrid MTB dirt jumpers/BMX'ers at the local race tracks and doin' tons of urban stunts on sub 1500.00 dollar bikes.
Look, go buy a Santa Cruz Chameleon, Cove Stiffee, Surly, or one of the like...by a Marzocchi Dirt Jumper or Z1, and drop a Deore or LX build kit with some Hussevelt cranks.
You should be able to do it for well under 1500.00
It won't be a pimpin' Bullit with a 5th Element suspension system and a Manitou Sherman, but it will take helluva lot more abuse than your NRS and it'll be a lot easier on your wallet.
Although I don't think anyone is going to buy your NRS if they find out you've been doing drops on it....now, shut your hole and do like the others suggest, either ride XC or replace your NRS....there is no magical spell that will make your NRS a freerider. |
| Here you go... | XJt Jun 10, 2003 11:16 AM | | Craftworks Rail 349.00
Marzocchi DJ 3 259.00
LX Trans/vbrakes 150.00 (approx)
Hussevelt Cranks 150.00
LX Rhino Lite Wheels 99.00
Intense Tires 60.00
Total approx: 1070.00
Not the toughest bully on the block...but a helluva lot tougher (and safer) for freeriding than your NRS... |
| How about this | Jec021comcast.net Jun 11, 2003 11:00 AM | | Im about 5'3 and 100 pounds would the Iron Horse SGS Sport s fit me it around 1000 at supergo and i like the setup i greatly apreciate your suggestions

| re: What should i do | bikerbike Jun 10, 2003 5:49 PM | | the NRS won't hold up doing that kind of stuff. Surprised it hasn't broken yet as thats not its purpose.
my urban veichle (unlike the nrs it is made to take some drops..)
