My short list - comments appreciated.Wm. L.

Well my short list of bikes to complement my little old rigid single speed (and not act my middle age) is Giant VT2, Specialized Enduro and maybe a Trek Liquid. Something felt especially sweet about the base model Enduro even though it has a shorter travel fork. It also seemed the Horst link felt better with power put to pedals out of the seat. I do wonder if and how much better the VT would be with more time tweaking the shock. The Trek did not seem as inspiring as either, but the same Psylo somehow felt better on the Liquid. I also liked the hydraulic brakes on the Enduro even though the cable disks of VT were great compared to the V-brakes and cantis I'm used to.

I'd love to hear comments on these bikes or anything else with 4-5 inches of travel that won't break the bank. Jamis XLT was recommended, but there seems to be no LBS stocking it in my town, and I think they are heavier.

Comments appreciated.

So far, everyone who has ridden the VT says the same thing you do about the psylo. Because the rear end is so stiff and resists pedal bob so well, the front feels mushy and bobs a lot. I will tell you that I ride an enduro with a psylo and it is awesome. I love it so much. Now my shop carries a liquid and enduro, and we haven't been able to tweak the liquid yet. It just has not felt right. The enduro has been awesome to us, many of our employees ride one and we all love it. The disc brakes are definitely awesome, and if you go to the $1900 enduro comp, you get the psylo, up to the $2200 expert, you get a psylo with lockout and better components. So pretty much, you are $300 from getting a long travel fork on the enduro anyway. Pretty much to sum it up, I love the enduro and it is an awesome bike. Any questions let me know

I tried my friends VT last weekend on a technical singletrack. I have to say that to my total amazement, it DOES NOT bob, wow 5.7inches of travel...

However, I still don't know exactly what it is, but i didn't like the feel that much. I would say it's kind of the position. You feel like you have a steep head angle when if fact it's not steep at all... I have an NRS at 100mm so it should be similar head angle.

Anyway, I would say the VT is an awesome bike but if I had to choose one you listed right now, I probably try my luck with the Enduro.

One of the big reasons the VT feels like it has such a steep angle is the differences between the front and rear. Because the psylo is a regular fork and meant to sag, it is creating a steeper head angle while the rear of the bike, which is not meant to sag, is staying fully extended and does not slacken at all, causing only the front end to go down and for you to feel like you are on a bike with a real steep head angle.

Hi,

I too am faced with a similar decision, I have narrowed down my choice to the VT or Enduro. I have not had a chance to ride either yet but reading the reviews both seem to offer just what I'm looking for and for a good price. I have been offered a better deal for the Giant so I am being swayed in that direction (money talks! and the extra bit of dosh could be spent 'tweaking' the bike). I was wondering if either might be more suited to someone with a smaller frame, I'm 5'8" and 135 lbs, also any advice on appropriate frame sizing would be appreciated.

I live in the Vancouver area and make frequent trips to Whistler so will use the bike in wide variety of conditions from mostly trail riding to shuttling the lifts and even the short ride to work!

any advice would be most appreciated, thanks.

I have ridden the Enduro and VT, and I like my Hollowpoint better. Less bob than the Enduro sitting, but still active, far less standing. Handling is more stable going down.(Plus it has a full XT build and Fox Float suspension rear and aft). Just get the '03.5 DW links from IH and you won't have any frame issues.
