Mountain Bike Review of Pantera and Belair - Jaybo way off..CTRider

in his conclusion of Mountain Bikes review of the Pantera. Jaybo, your post earlier this week is more sensationalized than the articles dude!

Here's what Mountain Bike says about the Pantera (my comments in parentheses): "The Pantera is a bit tough to pigeonhole because on one hand, it's a solid, sturdy frame that feels like it's designed for lots of travel; on the other, it has suspension quality (their test bike was equipped with a Fox Float RL) that feels like it belongs on a super-light race bike. Which leads us to a couple of conclusions: Large, cross country riders who don't want big travel will be in heaven. Riders who want a more plush ride to go with the qualities of the frame, will want to step up to a heavier, coil-spring Romic shock for an extra $120, which will allow the bike to stroke a little over four inches."

This sounds like a pretty accurate conclusion to me and hardly negative in my opinion. In my opinion it just speaks to the versatility of the bike if mated with a fox Float RL or a Romic Coil over. Overall I think the Pantera gets a favorable review in the article.

And the review was written by Matt Phillips.

Jaybo - I think you are a tad bit guilty of over sensationalizing the constructive criticism given to the Pantera by the reviewer.

The Verdict on the Belair: "The Balfa was a nice surprise. It's an all-around great and odd-looking bike from a relatively unknown-to-the-U.S. (I forsee this gradually changing) Canadian company. Aside from hoping that Balfa expands it's size range (two sizes regular and long), we were won over by our first ride on the Belair. If you are looking for a high quality, fun and rewarding rig, this bike is worth a look - so long as it fits (they noted that riders at the extremes of the height scale may have difficulty on the two frame sizes)."

All in all I'd say two positive reviews and IMO rightly so!

Anyone else read the entire article? IF so, your thoughts?

Next time Jaybo, try to tell a little more of the story please.

Cheers,

Mark (who's having a blast on his all-around great and odd-looking Belair, and who almost bought a Pantera - and who probably couldn't have gone wrong one way or the other)
Agree with you...fred³

it wasn't negative, just more rider/use specific. I'd guess some folks want to see only "it'll handle just about anything" posts. Maybe because they either just forked out the cash for one, or they were thinking of it.
Hey odd-looking bike guy......Mackie

Where did you find the text of the reviews? On line somewhere, or did you scan them in?
New bike for the son yet?
Thanks in advance.

to you if you'd like to read the full scoop.

No new bike for Liam. I think I'm going to wait until next season. He's growing like a weed! And he's doing well on his Trek with 6 speeds. He turns 7 on the 22nd and I think the 6 speed concept is good for him right now. Maybe more gears next spring, along with a lighter bike. He asked for a ramp for his birthday though so he could do some dirt jumping like the guys in the New World Disorder Videos! YIKES! or should I say AWESOME! :-)

Let me know if you want the articles via fax. I'd be happy to oblige.

Nope, thanks. I was just was wondring if they were online....Mackie

....somewhere so i could waste more time at work.
As for Liam, it would be a shame to deprive a boy of something he desires.
Look here.....perhaps they have something for Dad too....

I think they were pretty tough on a great bike. That is all I'm saying, but it sounds like you did not buy on my condensed version of this bike. Okay. I respect that.
