| Dialing in a new Blur | BlakeATL Jun 11, 2003 8:36 AM | | I know the set-up instructions say to set the pressure to your body weight. This feels too soft. I have no FS experience, so it may be set right and I just don't know. Also, the front end feels a bit higher than my hardtail. The thing is a day old, so it may just be me. Today is her maiden voyage on true trails. |

So, for example, if my dressed body weight is 205 #, I set the Fox to 215 PSI. ..... but I've found this perfect for normal trails, but too little for big drop or very rough trails. For that I typically stiffen to up to about 20 over body weight. Works for me.
I think the front end high feeling will go away with a few rides, that just might be the *newness* thing.
Good Luck w/ your Blur |

What stem do you have on there? I think SC specs a 120mm stem with a 10 degree rise. Makes climbing steep sections a challenge, but makes going downhill really nice. You may want to play around with the stem position and or get a new stem. Im thinking about going to a 110mm stem with a 5 degree rise.

| My Blur settings | Motivated Jun 11, 2003 12:13 PM | | I like a firm feel, my weight is 185lb, frame is XL. I get zero bob in big ring, maybe .050" biopace bob in middle and small rings, but zero when climbing. I set the shock pressure based on seat of the pants feel. Pumped it up to about 25psi over my weight and let air out on the trail until I liked how it felt. Turns out to be 190 to 195psi, which jives with the SC website. For a few weeks I tried setting pressure based on sag, but the sag does not change much with shock pressure. I have also fiddled with the air volume adjustment and I prefer a setting of 1 (slightly reduced). For damping setting I beleive it is is about 4-7 clicks away from full slow - or just a few clicks toward slow from the middle. Anywhere in the middle is good, but I did not like full slow or full open. |
| Speaking of damping, what setting is everyone using? | Nat Jun 11, 2003 2:23 PM | | Out of curiosity, what rebound damping setting is everyone running on their Blur shock? I have mine 4 clicks from full slow now. It felt way too damped at first, but now I'm used to it I guess. My previous bikes I ran full fast, but that felt weird on this bike. I like a snappy, quick suspension feel, but couldn't get that from this bike. Now I keep it kind of "dead" feeling. It works well on climbs that way, but was totally different from what I was used to. |
| Speaking of damping, what setting is everyone using? | laffeaux Jun 11, 2003 2:58 PM | | I have the Vanilla RL shock on mine and have it set at 6 clicks from the fastest rebound. |
| By "shock" did you mean "fork?" | Nat Jun 11, 2003 6:45 PM | | I was inquiring about the rear shock actually. I think all the Blurs come with an AVA, correct? Or did you put a coil-over on yours? |
| Opps. My bad | laffeaux Jun 11, 2003 10:37 PM | | I meant Float RL (yes, the rear AVA shock). The R and the RL have different adjustments and I wanted to be clear that mine had the lockout. My bad. |
| My Blur settings | BlakeATL Jun 12, 2003 6:05 AM | | Thanks for the tips. I ran it +10lbs yesterday and it felt fine. Thanks to the advice I will probably take it up a tad bit more. The front end was all over the place on the climbs, so I took out the spacers and she climbs like dream. Actually, the decents were great, but I really loved climbing on this bike more than my hardtail. Last thing, don't know if I was riding faster or if the rings are geared differently, but I was in the big ring quite a bit last night on a trail that had never seen the big ring on my hardtail. Thanks again |
