What Bike to Wait For(9 posts)

What Bike to Wait Forgrrrr
Jun 12, 2003 9:20 AM
We need a new forum, "What bike to wait for" I've had my 5 spot on order since January when I could have purchased an XCE. Instead, I decided to wait for the "late February / early March" delivery date of the 5-spot. Here it is mid-June and still waiting.

I sure hope Turner tosses in a titanium spring from Romic, or upgrades my warranty to lifetime, or does something to keep me as a customer...obviously producing a great bike will help, but this wait is ridiculous and unexcusable.

You've waited this long if you can hold out till around november or december Intense should have the much awaited 5.5 inch vpp out. This should be the one of the best trail bike out Period. To see what it might look like, go to the photo gallery, click on Big Bear, and its about 7 to 10 pages in.
My 2 cents.

... and I have one that I am waiting on too. The wait is tough, especially when you see others posting pics of their killer new rides, but they are shipping them. Just... a... little... longer...
I had the same dilemma, and went with the XCE.........esquire

Hard to imagine they'd improve the XCE, but apparently they did. I love it, but I still wonder what the 5-spot (especially this one, as its a large, one size higher than mine) will feel like. I was on the bubble between med and large, went with med, and would like to see what the 5-spot feels like. I think we'll have to put a disclaimer on the sales tag that says, "Subject to employees, owners, etc., trying your bike out, upon completion." or something like that.

when the wait for a Turner was said to be running 6-9 months! I didn't feel like waiting nearly that long so I bought my first Truth.

Now that I've been riding an XCE for the past year+, all I can say is that what Turner will do for you to keep you as a customer is supply you with a kick-áss bike when it's finally delivered.

Hang in there ... and don't compromise! (but yeah, I'm sure the wait súcks)

Hey Dogbert, how does the XCE ride compared to the Truth?
Thanks!

Rear suspension action is very similar. I prefer the XCE since it's more stable at speed and a better descender. The Truth is lighter, quicker handling ... to the point of being twitchy (IMO). I understand the new Truths have a slacker head tube angle which addresses this "shortcoming". Although one of the claims of the Truth is that it is an excellent & efficient climber (which it is), the XCE doesn't take a back seat in this department. Both are excellent bikes, the XCE better for my needs. I did manage to crack the chainstay on my 2nd Truth. Ellsworth handled the warranty replacement quickly, so I have no complaints about their customer service.

Check the archives/do a search on this forum. This topic has come up several times. Maren also switched from a Truth to a Turner & has offered up his opinions on each.

Where are you located? THe LBS here seems to have plenty 5 Spot frames just waiting to be bought / built.
Yeah, what they said!Bikezilla

Tell me about it!

I "Pre-ordered" mine the last week of December (might as well call it Jan) My LBS sold two so far, but neither were my size.

There were problems in shipping the XL frames, that caused a delay when the April/May products started rolling. Then we decided (The LBS, Turner & I) that a Large would be a better fit. I'm on the size bubble too...and even though they said they had my frame at the painter 3wks ago, well, I still don't have it yet.

Another couple of weeks seems to be the mantra. Tough wait for sure. But like the other guy said, the bike that comes will be all the extra kick-in necessary. (And Turner knows it)

Here's a interesting thought: Turner hasn't even started production on the Burner yet...Or the Rail (AFAIK)...so only half their line is actually shipping and we are about to go into summer...so at least we know they are working on the 5S' as hard as they can, after all, how many DHRs are they going to sell?

Last weekend I rode with a guy who got a 5S from my LBS and he had his Truth in the truck right next to it. He said he'd though he'd never buy or ride anything but the Ellsworth, but the 5S completely changed his mind.

The wait sucks, but every owner I've read from and spoken to say the product more than makes up for it, and from what I hear the customer service does as well...that says a lot when you think they always sell out, year, after year, after year, after year...........
