Help, I'm a girl... looking for the right bike. (5 posts)
| Help, I'm a girl... looking for the right bike. | Mary Jun 12, 2003 4:32 PM | | I need some friendly expert advice. I'm looking for a bike for trail riding. My budget is $600 and I'm considering the Specialized Rockhopper Women's, Giant Iguana Disc, Trek 6700 Women's, and I heard that Jamis might have some good women's bikes as well.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thank you! |

ya unfortunaly i really can't be of much assistance with womens bikes, but i do know that all 4 of those companies have really good reputations. but just by a quick look over, from what is listed on the web sites, i would recommend the trek, it seems to have a better set up for women and the specs are better, decore and lx. alright well hope this helps, but make sure you test ride each bike and see what one feels better. that's really the key to getting the right bike. |

The shorter Top Tube is not for everyone. I say they all are great bikes, provided you purchase it at a shop that you are comfortable with. Test as many as you can. sometimes one will just feel "right". Good Luck. damion@adnmail if you have any specific questions about the Trek or Specialized bikes. Later. |

Be sure to ask if the fork can be properly adjusted for your weight. A lot of forks in that price range aren't very adjustable, and most forks are designed around the average guy. A friend of a friend bought a Trek WSD bike and found out later that the fork could never be adjusted to her light weight, and she was barely getting any travel out of it. I'm sorry I don't remember which model bike or fork, though I think the fork might have been a Judy something. I sold her a 2000 Sid XC air fork (easy to set up for light riders) that I had lying around, and she loves it.
If the shop isn't willing to help you with the fork or other fit adjustments, I'd suggest trying another shop if you have that option.
