| BLUR | RA3 Jun 12, 2003 7:42 PM | | Is the S.C. Blur all its cracked up to be? Is all the hype true or just good marketing?
Will it last, is it durable?
Is it just a fad?
I'm debating whether to buy two Blurs or two cannondale jekyll 500s (one for me and one for wife), I know they are two different bikes/categories, I just don't know if the extra money for the blurs would be worth it.
We don't race, don't do drops, we ride when we can squeeze in the time.
I rode both bikes, coming from hardtail they both feel nice, the blur nicer, but again, is it just the hype, and not worth the extra $$$.
what do you think? |
| re: BLUR | damion Jun 13, 2003 3:52 AM | | Go with the Jekylls, and decide if you are going to log the miles needed to justify the pair of Blurr's. It sounds like the additional comfort that the longer travel Jekyll frame offers is right up ypur alley. If you need a Blurr, Spyder XXP, ect. you will know it. If you have time, check the latest MBAction. |
| re: BLUR | Rcer70 Jun 13, 2003 5:16 AM | | I say go with the Blur. I made the mistake of trying to save a little money on my first bike purchase, thinking along the same line you are. After riding a couple months on the cheaper bike, It became very obvious I needed something more capable. So, instead of spending $2400 on my second bike, it ended up costing me closer to $3000 when you include the purchase of the first bike. Also, don't think that you could turn around and sell the Jeckyll at anywhere near what you paid for it if you later decide you needed the Blur! Another thing to remember is, it's cheaper to by a whole bike with good componets than buying a bike with cheaper componets and then upgrading to what you want. Why don't you get a Blur for yourself and a Jeckyll for your wife, unless you think she's capable enough of realizing the extra benefits of the Blur!
I'd go with the Blur. You'll be much happier. At it's price point, it's an awesome frame, probably much better than alot of frames that are 3-4 hundred more. |
| re: BLUR | BlakeATL Jun 13, 2003 5:38 AM | | I just got my Blur earlier this week, and have ridden it three times. I would definitely say that it is worth it. There is a sensation of floating over the trail. The suspension is just so smooth. The whole "bob" thing is not hype either. As you pedal, there is little- if any- movement beneath you, but when you hit a root or something, the suspension gives to overcome it. It is amazing. I have no complaints so far. As far as durability, the beefy tubes and good welds speak for themselves. I have never liked Cannondales anyway, but I give the Blur a great review so far. |

It is so comfortable, so stable, climbs so well, it's so awesome on descents. It really is a superior bike design and worth the extra expense. Been riding one since February. I've always been a active rider, but never have I put so many hours on a bike in such a short time. The reason: the bike is a joy to ride, I can't wait to get on it every day, and I ride longer and longer because I don't want the ride to end. In my opinion, it's actually a bit better than the hype. |

| ditto | J.S. Jun 13, 2003 8:04 AM | | Although I went with a Truth instead of a Blur, that "bike euphoria" feeling will defintely pull you onto the trails and do stuff you normally wouldn't do. However, this requires something that you will SERIOUSLY enjoy riding, like a Blur (or Truth in my case).
=)
Happy trails... |
| ditto | Hmmmmmmmm Jun 16, 2003 1:36 PM | | I agree, i went with a Titus SB [ long travel- cause i got the frame fork & head set cheaper than a blur frame would have cost] The titus is amazing at everything.. BUT i must say i do have some time on a blur.. it's no hype.. the bike is SOOOOOoo sweet, infact i was going to get one right after i returned the one i test rode.. thats how nice they are.. like everyone else said.. the ride can not be described in words enough..Even though i went with the SB & probably would again, [thats just me ] if i could have both the blur would be it... you will not be sorry, the Cannondale does not come close |
| re: BLUR | mort Jun 13, 2003 10:27 AM | | i also have a blur, this bike is smooth. at first i was looking at giant nrs2 which does not bob either but 2002 where all gone and instead of waiting on it i went with the blur. i don't like the headshock on the connondale not enough travel. and i was looking at the jekyll 1000 which had the lefty with 4 inchs was not either. |
