| Anybody know anything about Barracuda Hardtail? | shuflys Jun 13, 2003 2:54 PM | | I'm currently looking for a hardtail as my old MS stumpjumper has to be retired. I found someone selling a brand new Barracuda A2BS. It also includes 6000 series aluminum frame,Answer Manitou Mach 5 Compe XC suspension fork. Shimano LX rear derailleur, Shimano STX front derailleur, w/SRAM SRT 600 8 speed Grip shifts, Shimano Linear Pull V brakes with Dia Compe 12Na brake levers. Vuelta Airline V alloy rims w/Shimano LX hubs. Sugino Impell crank. Is this a decent bike for approx. $500? I'm an intermediate riding mostly XC and fire trails. |
| it might be unused but not "new" | laffeaux Jun 13, 2003 3:08 PM | | Barracuda manufactured nice bikes through the mid-90s. The bike you're describing sounds like a 1996 model (based mostly on the Manitou Mach 5). None of the parts are current. $500 sounds steep for a 7 year old bike. I'd buy new, or talk this guy down a lot. |
| agree... | JimC. Jun 14, 2003 5:58 AM | | I'd almost consider he fork worthless, at 7 years old it might harly work at all, parts are likely non-existent, so factor in the cost of a decent new fork. Say at $399? Makes that bike worth very little....laffeaux's right, find a new ride.
A new giant Iguana with disc brakes is around $600 NEW, many good similar bikes exist. The standard benchmark (best value) bike is the Giant Ranier, and it's only $700.
Good luck, Jim |

| I used to have an A2V... | Gill-Again Jun 16, 2003 6:58 AM | | Bombproof bike. It had a Manitou fork and all XT parts. I beat the crap out of it and it ALWAYS came back for more. I ended up selling it to a friend for $800 a few years back. It had a Manitou Magnum fork and all XT parts.
The bonus is that I still get to see it from time to time. It's still running strong.
That said, I'd say that $500 is way overpriced for that bike. I agree with te suggestion of the Giant Ranier. Great bike for the price. |
