| XLT 2.0 VS NRS 1 | UmmHELP Jun 14, 2003 8:31 PM | | Jamis XLT 2.0 VS. Giant NRS 1. NRS 1 is easy find...Jamis is not. How much is the XLT 2.0 stock anyway?? I'm gunna race XC in enduros and Adventure Races with some freeride and DH. 4-5 ft drops. Like the Fox Forx on the Jamis. NEED SOME INPUT!!!!!!!!!!! |
| re: XLT 2.0 VS NRS 1 | danny K Jun 14, 2003 10:14 PM | | I used to own a NRS Team. It is NOT a freeride bike and not built for drops.
I own a xlt 2.0, and while it's more of a trailbike than the nrs, it's not really designed for 4 and 5 foot drops. The tubing is triple butted and not all that bombproof and sturdy, relatively speaking.
Retail is 1999 on the xlt 2.0. I have one brand new one left but it has a few scratches on it from shipping. |

Took all good bits off NRS and its as light as Nrs (25.3lbs) so it is light enough to race and races better than NRS because it rails around single track, is more active, back end can be locked out if need be,very adjustable, great climber, generally just grips the terrain better than an NRS.with heaps more travel if you need it.
Get one you wont regret it.
Std. though they are about 3x pounds plus heavier than an NRS 1.- but the frames are the same weight as I weighed both of mine.-the fox Talas would be close to a pound heavier than the Sid, but boy they are worlds apart in performance.

| Hey Malcolm: | Trevor! Jun 15, 2003 1:14 AM | | Ever since I saw your original post all I have ever heard is nothing but the best about this bike...
Really looks tempting you know - Dont know of where to get them in Australia! Do you know if you can buy the frame alone?
Think it would be cool to race with as well as doing weekend epics....
Getting a little (Just a little) tired of the NRS for everyday riding...
Hmm Truth, XLT. hmmm |
| Hey Malcolm: | malcolm Jun 15, 2003 1:53 AM | | If you look on the Jamis website it quotes the Aussy importer and in fact it quotes an Aussy importer for NZ as well.So maybe our NZ guy is buying through Aussy or it hasnt been updated yet.
I would say the XLT is way cheaper than the Truth, but it is a beautifully crafted bike and would build up lighter but I dont think it would ride any better.
I was just amazed at how well it went last weekends race and I beat many guys that are a lot fitter than me.I think mainly due to the quality of the ride.
It just stuck to the ground awesomely and never looked like letting go.- it must be the fox front and rear and the fully active design, and also up the short climbs it just flew up and never broke traction.
It was so stable and railed around the single track very similar to my old IDrive but way lighter and quicker.
I'm glad I got the 17 inch because it is exactly the same position as the 18.5 NRS but heaps more standover clearance.
Areally neat bike and so versatile and can be made race light but still very strong.
The frame is available seperate according to website.
Go for it.

| Thanks and ummm | Trevor! Jun 15, 2003 2:58 AM | | all that information was great for sure... I am going to get a quote on the Frame price - If it is attractive then it is officially on my list... Would definatley be a fox up front...
Just looks so good - and no doubt rides better than the NRS... While still performing well on the trails!
Cant find the email contact - Will ring them tomorrow! |
| Thanks and ummm | malcolm Jun 15, 2003 3:10 AM | | Also meant to ask did you get the Kenda Karmas in the end and how much in Aust as I dont think NZ supplier bringing in at this stage.

| 17", but what else... | danny K Jun 15, 2003 6:23 AM | | Your frame is a 17, but what stem do you have on there? Length and rise. And the post????
It obviously went from a rather upright trail bike to a xc racer position.
How tall are you? |

| On my 17 inch frame I use the following... | malcolm Jun 15, 2003 2:33 PM | | had a Thomson laidback post but at 330mm not enough in frame so now have an Easton EA70 400mm long. Also have a Deuse 115mm stem straight from the NRS.Also the Thomson was from the NRS to so nothing really changed.

| On my 17 inch frame I use the following... | danny K Jun 15, 2003 2:40 PM | | How much do you weight, and how do you have your rear shock psi set up? |
| On my 17 inch frame I use the following... | malcolm Jun 15, 2003 2:53 PM | | I am 185 lbs.
Still fiddling with pressure but I think about 190psi- it is hard because the book doesnt give any guidlines so I am a little confused, but the sag seems right.
