Heckler or Coiler?(6 posts)

Heckler or Coiler?NerfPoodle

Hello everyone,

I'm 5'9", 155 lbs, and I'm building-up a 32-34 lb. heavy-duty trail bike/light freeride bike, that won't be hucked off anything larger than five feet.

I already have a Marzocchi Freeride QR20, and a Mavic D521 wheelset with Hadley hubs, and I can't afford $2K for a Foes, Turner, Titus, etc.

So what do you think - Heckler or Coiler? Or is there another contender I haven't thought of? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kelley
Can you get a Coiler as a frame only??CTRider

Heckler would offer a lot of bang for the Buck, possibly a Balfa 2Step or 2Step DH as well. What about an Ironhorse Hollowpoint frame with a coilover shock on it instead of an air shock? I think I've seen some running romics if I'm not mistaken.

Just some thoughts.

Good luck.

But it sure sounds like a lot of bang for the buck. I think the Heckler (which I ride BTW) with a 5th Element is hard to beat as an all purpose bike. Heck, you may think I am crazy, but even a Bullit would do what you want if you are careful in component selection and don't do the all day epic climbs. A Bullit would make a 5 foot drop seem like a blip. Ventana's El Chamuco is another VERY good option as well without dropping $2k.

I was just browsing the classifieds and there is a '04 Kona Coiler frame available for only $750.00. If it were my size I would probably buy it, but it should be perfect for someone 5'9".
