Yeti eBay Deal ????(14 posts)

Yeti eBay Deal ????true_grit
Sep 22, 2003 6:22 AM
On ebay there is a NEW 2003 Yeti ASR-SL with 2003 XTR Disk, Chris King; no listing for front fork or rear shock for $2300. I just built a similar bike on wrenchscience.com for close to $3900.
This sounds too good to be true... Thoughts?

I would be leery of this...Larry

This person has never sold anything on eBay before... at least according to their Feedback. Every comment talks about them making a payment. True they only have positive feedback... but as you pointed out this is a great price. They also talk about having more than one bike, various sizes are mentioned.

If you are looking for this bike, write the person and ask if they are affiliated with a bike shop. Also ask where they are based and ask what shipping would cost.

This is also the only auction this person has right now. If they had the bike in more than one size, wouldn't it stand to reason they would try to sell the others as well?

Just be careful...

I would have to agree with Larry on this one. I have reported 6 high end bike scams on ebay in the last month and a half which were all removed by ebay. a few things, this guy does not accept paypal so there is no security for your payment, he does not have actual pics of the bike, hasn't bought any bikes or bike parts in the acutions that are viewable, the price is too good to be true. enough reasons for you??
Seller is in Italy...true_grit

Says he is protected by eBays fraud protection program. But he only accecpts Western Union money transfers.
TOTAL SCAMMikey

Italy... Western Union only... hasn't sold bikes before... shows only manufacturer's pics/specs... all scam red flags. Especially the Western Union only one. Do NOT pay or you will lose your money.
Not according to the auction!Larry

According to his Auction he is located in the US. He also says he accepts PayPal, check and money orders!

Steer clear of this character and I would report him/her to eBay fraud department.

This guy is 100% scamming.

Bike Has Been Pulled !!!!!!!true_grit

Thanks everyone. I challenged the integrity of the seller. The response was "no response" and they pulled the bike off ebay.
bubba K - how did you report the bike scams? (nm)dave_tampa

I filed a eBay fraud alert.true_grit
Sep 22, 2003 1:34 PM
First I asked the seller to work through an escrow service for my protection. He refused. I theatened to file a fraud alert with ebay and he stopped responding. I sent him a copy of the Western Union scam details ( from the MTBR Classifieds ) and noted if he was up front he would be ok with the challenge. No response. So, per eBays Buyer Protection Program I filed a fraud alert.

Weel done. I myself almost sent money to a guy for a Cannondale, fortunately Western Union warned me about the scam. I filed couple of the similar scams (for bike and plasma TV) to FBI website and eBay. Even I knew they were scams, I feel we should prevent others from falling into the trap.

Trek Fuel 100 Scam Too...Doug Gangi
Sep 23, 2003 4:07 PM
Somebody tried the same crap with a 2003 Trek Fuel 100 -- $1695 including shipping. That's a $4000 bike, so I knew the deal was too good to be true.

Turns out the seller was in Spain and only accepted Western Union for payment. "Trust me", he says, "I am an honest person. I have a long record with Ebay".

The very next day the ad is yanked from Ebay. The seller claims that he pulled the ad himself because he did not want to pay the eBay fees.

I looked up the user's eBay record -- 4 reviews as a buyer, none as a seller. Sure, I'll trust him. What a rip-off.

So beware of these scams. They are for real...

Thx...Doug
