5spot b/o maybe a foes will do??????lamar

The 5spot is on back order and I was looking to get a frame pretty quick. How does the Foes FXR compare to the Turner. My last bike was a Turner xce so I know how these frames are. Let me know the positives and negatives on the Foes.

Just a heads up. The 6.7 lb. weight listed on the Foes website is incorrectly stated to be with shock, when in fact it is without shock. The frame weighs about 8.3 lbs with the Curnutt shock.

Foes much burlierParticle

From reputed sources...though I've never ridden a 5 Spot. I tend toward the freeride/DH spectrum of riding, and felt more comfortable with the Foes' reputation as a heavy hitter. And it climbs like a muthafucka!

We have those too!!!
The 5 Spot is more cross country oriented, the Foes more freeride and weighs more too. The Foes has a heavily compression damped Curnut shock to give it the help it needs pedaling, and does not have quite the small-medium bump performance the Turner does because of that, yet has excellent big hit performance. The Foes and Turner are for 2 different type xc/trail riders IMO.
Which Frame to BUY?daner1

I'm also looking to replace my 6yr old Ventana Marble-Peak. I'm flip flopping between the Foes FXR & the Turner 5-Spot. Which one is the better/longer lasting frame for XC & Trail riding. The Ventana Salti is also in this contention. I have a little loyaly to Ventana because my Marble Peak has held up to lots of abuse for 6 years. But I would like to try another company's frame design for a change.
Oooh, you DO have a problem....Bikezilla

Especially comming off a Ventana... That's a big pair of shoes to fill.

Here's another pickle for you, have you seen Ventana's new X-5 Geeze louise, that thing looks incredible. (it's on the first page)

I went Turner b/c I really wanted a Horst link design. But that is not necessarily for everyone. Especially if you already had a Venti'

I haven't seen enough about the Foes to have any idea about them. Just know they have a great rep.

Don't feel guilty about the brand loyalty...if any company has earned it, Ventana's certainly one. (Turner of course being the other ;^)

Why did you choose the Horst link design? Have you had any issues w/ flex in hard turns or rock gardens? You are right about Ventana earning the loyaly, but I'm also looking for something of equal quality w/ more of a plush ride.
Choices...Bikezilla

Actually this is my first FS bike. There were so many choices of so many different design types, I had to draw the line somewhere to cut down the field.

All my reading suggested the Horst design had better pedaling properties than a singlepivot and that seatstay pivots tend to act like a single pivot...then there is all the performance and stiffness arguments.

Anyway, the general consensus is single pivots and shock technology have improved to the point they do pedal quite well. But I figured HLs also had the same opportunity to improve so I stayed the course.

As for flex...no, no way do I notice any flex. And I love how this bike handles rock gardens I pedal into and through them, and track perfectly. Railing turns is a pure joy. There has been plenty of discussion on stifness as well. The consensus seems to be it is more a matter of the bike design, rather than the suspension type.

I don't have any experience with other fs bikes, but after years on a HT, I'm sure I'd be sensitive to things like flex squat and bob.
