Santa Cruz buyers beware...(12 posts)

Santa Cruz buyers beware...brainbckt

Rumors of Santa Cruz finally getting their production turnaround times down to a reasonable level have been highly overstated. I'm coming up on week 9 on a Heckler order. No regrets on the choice, but be prepared for a long wait...

If you are placing an order with a company that is high up on the Santa Cruz priority list there is hardly a wait. I ordered the rootbeer heckler at my lbs in Utah (which is SC's #1 dealer in all of Utah... they had it within 2 1/2 weeks. When It arrived I din't like the color, they called up Santa Cruz asked what they had and they said One large met blue, and one large white. I took the blue, it was here at the end of that week. And I've been riding happily ever since. They have had 3 medium frames come in since I was last in there. They even have blur frames in stock..which is un heard of every where else. Sorry about the wait...Cancel your order and take the drive to Utah! The heckler is awesome!!
We have had decent luck as of late...Innocent Bystander

SC seems to be catching up to the curve. Remember, some colors are more popular than others, so it is possible to get one in a color that may not be very popular. The custom colors (Trans Blue, Trans Red, Trans Gold, Duke Blue and Root Beer) seem to be the most popular and get the longest waits. They powdercoast them in cycles, and sometimes you have to wait until your color comes up in the paint queue. They wait until they have a sufficient number of frames to have a run of a certain color.

We actually have a large ano steel blue Blur in stock that they had one day when I called, so I told them to just ship it. I think some dealers are starting to get ahead of the curve as well which explains the new found stock some of us have. We have a large Bullit, a large Blur and a small Superlight.. all in stock right now. We haven't had been able to keep a bike in stock for more than a week since last November. That makes it frustrating for those waiting for their bikes... I know. I waited 7 months for my own personal bike, a Root Beer Heckler. I almost took that white one you are speaking of.. but decided to wait it out. I actually think the color rocks. I guess that is ONE advantage of having so many colors to choose from. The disadvantage being the wait.

...speedgoat. I just got a message from them saying that SC didn't make enough Trans Red XLs in their last production run, so I have to wait at least another 4 weeks if I want that color. Not sure if this shop just doesn't have any clout, or what.

Not only can you never test ride a bike in your size cause shops won't stock them, but the manufacturer doesn't make enough of them to fill demand from someone like Speedgoat (who is probably high on their list if there is such a list).

I notice nobody is claiming to have riden, seen or have in stock an XL....

I just went down to Colorado Cyclist last weekend and rode 3 Blurs. A large, a medium and a small. They also had 2 or 3 Blur frames on the walls.

Each bike was set up differently so I was also testing out the components on the smaller bikes. The large had full xtr with xtr disc brakes. It also had a Teralogic front fork and a Fox rear shox. Almost no bobbing at all! I would think it would be rock solid with a 5th element. The xtr disc brakes made some grinding sound whenever I turned the bike. As soon as I straightened the bike, the noise went away. The bike also had the new xtr shifters. Pretty goofy and I kept mixing up the brake with the shifting. I'd hate to really shift hard only to find out I actually was "braking hard". Still not sold on those!

The medium had a Rock Shock on it as well as the Fox rear. Did notice a little more bob on the hard pedal strokes. Definitely more than the large frame.

The small had the fox 100 fork up front and a 5th Element in the rear. I really liked the feel of this one, however it was really small. It did have the Hayes Hydraulic disc and they felt much more powerful than the xtr's. I was impressed. It was also equiped with SRAM X.0 shifters which was what I am thinking about using. Very nice and crisp shifting.

I was also able to do this with three little girls, 7, 5 and 2 yrs old because mom was working (Real Estate most weekends!) Just put them on their bikes and said "ride in that direction". Worked out pretty good.
I got mine in about a week.Kapusta

I'm in CT, and the shop I ordered it from just called up, asked what colors were available, and I picked one. My choices in large were red (immediatley available)trans red (two week wait) and met blue (4 week wait). I took the red because it was the fastest and the cheapest. I can't imagine waiting for a specific color, let alone paying extra for it. Who cares what color it is? Red was not my first choice, but in the flesh it is actually quite beautiful.

I've been riding it for about a week now, I think I've olmost got the shock dialed in. Great bike, great price.
