| What bike you ride poll: | inquiring minds Jan 9, 2004 12:25 PM | | Please everybody list your bike or bikes you own, parts spec, and where you live along with brief description of your average trail you ride. I wanna see the bikes/builds vs. geography/trails posted. |
| Why not, its Friday.... IF Deluxe, GT I-Drive, more | Rev Bubba Jan 9, 2004 12:33 PM | | IF steel Deluxe is basically XT/XTR with a SID and Avid Ti Rim brakes w/ Paul Levers,
I-Drive 2.0 is a heavy sucker with Avid Mech discs, Sun Rhyno Lite rims, XT hubs, etc.,
Than there is the old GT Zaskar Frankenbike made up of whatever was left and a rigid fork from an old GT Tequesta.
Last of all is the Cannondale R300 Road bike with RSX components. Cheap, used and heavy for a road bike but fun non-the-less.
Where do I ride? Eastern single track, specifically, Nortwest NJ and the Jim Thorpe Area in PA plus the occassional down of downhill at Mountain Creek, NJ except the roadbike which is ridden, no surprise here, on the road.
Have a nice weekend. It is cold as Hell here (below zero tonight) and I'm going skiing. |
| Still My GT STS (with an exta 2 pounds of flag) | Davide Jan 10, 2004 12:17 AM | | It is working sooo well in these days, perfect muddy conditions at around 50-60F.
Where do I ride: San Francisco (GG and Presidio), Marin epics (e.g. start GG south tower, cross over the bridge, go left -> all the way to headlands --> all the way (all the way!) to top of Mont Tam an back to south GG tower by a similar route), China Camp, Tilden, and east Tilden waterreservoires, Point Reyes (including the 5h+ north-south traverse) |
| Why not, it is Friday-Gemini set up as a trailbike. | Damion Jan 9, 2004 1:03 PM | | For my 225lb ass. Gemini 1000, with Lefty Max, and 5th coil-over. Easton carbon bar, Hayes 8"/6". 130mm travel front, 157.5/168.75/191.25mm travel rear. I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and ride all year around. Later. |

1. Catamount Full suspension XT/Avid Discs/Vanilla R.

3. Fetish Cycles Discipline. Singlespeed/Deore 555 Discs/Pslyo or Rigid fork

4. Cannondale M700 (1992) LX/Skinny slick tires/Rocks Shox Sid
-Commuter, got more use when i lived & worked in NYC
5. Frankenbike: An old St Tropez road frame with a 700c front wheel and a 26 inch 3 speed rear with a Sturmey Archer hub. Flat bar.
-This was my "bar bike" in grad school. I'd leave it locked up outside of bars for hours (I miss grad school)
6. Columbia Fire Arrow, 1950's model.
-Restoration project
Around here (Southern NY State) it's rocks and roots and lots of up and down. Like Rev Bub said, Eastern singletrack. We're not all that far away from each other. |

Look for me under numerous pseudonyms here, but I'll be Mackie on the new boards.
Oh, and it is alot of bikes, but I only need 1 or 2 more (that's the same thing I said 3 or 4 bikes ago). |

| re: What bike you ride poll: | Wiley_Coyote Jan 9, 2004 3:22 PM | | 2003 Specialized Enduro - stock parts (4" or 5.2" travel adjustable Fox Float w/Itch switch, Marzocchi MX Comp 100mm, XT/Deore, Hayes disc)
I live and ride in the desert southwest (Vegas). Boulder City is my favorite place to ride. The trails consist of rocks, big rocks, and ever-bigger rocks.
Note: The Specialized tires that came with the bike turned out to be too flimsy for the desert terrain. So I replaced them with Kenda "John Tomac" series tires. Wow, what an improvement! I love these tires! |
| Willey, I get to Vegas each May for the nationals (billiards) | Damion Jan 9, 2004 3:49 PM | | Perhaps I will bring my bike with me. I get at least one full day off, depending on how the team does. If I bring Gemini, care to show me Bootleg? I will bring the goodies, if interested. I live in Alaska. |
| Willey, I get to Vegas each May for the nationals (billiards) | Wiley_Coyote Jan 9, 2004 10:27 PM | | Damion, sounds good to me!
What part of May is it? If it's early May then the temperature should be OK. But if it's towards the end of May it may be too hot to ride (100+) |
| Willey, I get to Vegas each May for the nationals (billiards) | Damion Jan 10, 2004 1:25 AM | | Yeah, I am with it. The first time I was there, My Jekyll and I stayed at the Riv for 26 days. I played in 4 national singles events and 2 team events, getting into the top 10% every time. That was from may 4 to like the 2nd of june, or something like that. This time around, the dates are the may 9 to may 14 or so. I will only be down for the team events, but I will have at least 1 full day. Later. |

| Hammerhead | Wiley_Coyote Jan 9, 2004 11:07 PM | | Thanks KRob! I've been reading these forums for a while and finally decided to register and start posting.
The only two places I'm familar with riding are Boulder City and the Red Rock Canyon area.
PS - I love the picture in your post! That's a cool bike with a beautiful backdrop.
Here's a pic of mine. |
| Hammerhead...... | Markv Jan 12, 2004 9:06 AM | | Hey KRob.......Just picked up a 2003 23.5" Hammerhead off MTBR's classified last week. Have been able to get one sloppy/snow/mud ride in last Saturday and I love the bike......it's my third Titus! A small group (3 or 4) of us from Boise are headed down through Ely Friday on our way to Boulder City and Sedona. Are you interested? |
| Yes, maybe. | KRob Jan 12, 2004 12:36 PM | | Hey Mark, I don't know if you saw my post over on Passion "Hello, my name is KRob and I'm an mtbaholic", but I was planning a trip to BC and Gooseberry this weekend with the family, but "the family" connection is quickly falling apart (kids have other commitments, wife said maybe she'd just stay home) so I may be interested. E me at
kentsaundraATmwpowerDOTnet. |
| Will do....... | Markv Jan 12, 2004 1:08 PM | | I was thinking about Gooseberry too.....but I've camped there in January and it's alot colder than Sedona! Have a friend in Phoenix who would like to hook up with us to ride on Sunday and Monday in Sedona. I'll drop you an E-mail. |
| Giant NRS but... | Mario Jan 9, 2004 8:25 PM | | Currently have only a Giant NRS but I have a Devinci Banzai that I ordered in November that has not arrived yet!
My NRS is a 2000 that has been repainted to my taste! Z2 100mm in front, XT hydraulic brakes, Easton cockpit, Conti tires, the rest is pretty much boring.
I ride technical singletrack in Quebec, Ontario, Vermont, Maine, NewYork, NewHampshire and a week a year in Virginia. Every once in a while I go for a little downhill day on one of the local downhill ski stations.
Here's the beast: |
| 2004 Truth | Trevor! Jan 9, 2004 9:28 PM | | I ride a 23.89Lbs Ellsworth Truth, and consider myself an XC racer type. I don't huck really when out on the trails, though I love a good climb and a nice technical DH sections and lots of single track.
Living in Tasmania, Australia I am very luck to ride the broadest range of terrain from flowing single track, to tight and narrow half track, long long climbs, mud, rocks, roots, anything slippy, sandy dusty circuts, pine plantations etc etc
Build is: SRAM XO, FSA Carbon Pros, XT/XTR brakes, King Wheelset, King Headset, SLR, EC70 bar and stem, FSA Stem, Foam Grips, Ti Bolts here and there.
I ride 6-7 days a week up to about 500-600Km. Shortest ride is 1.5hrs, longest would be around 6hrs. |
| 2003 Truth | J.S. Jan 9, 2004 10:48 PM | | Well, here's my steed...
2003 Truth w/ Romic Coil, Fox Float-100 fork, XTR/RaceFace drivetrain, King/Mavic wheelset, Avid Ultimate V-brakes and levers, Easton low riser bar, Thomson Seat post. Weighs somewhere around 26lbs. |

| Forgot to mention... | Erok Jan 10, 2004 8:31 AM | | where I ride. I live in Northeast Ohio and ride a bunch of local trails during the week. On weekends I usually ride at Vulture's knob or Mohican Wilderness Trails. The terrain I ride has a little of everything which is why I decided on the HH 100X. It does everything very well... what more can you ask of a trail bike? |
| Tracer | derby Jan 10, 2004 9:43 AM | | XTR, RaceFace, Mavic, Avid, WTB, Fox & Marzocchi coil, etc
I usually ride from home around Mt Tam singletracks. And often drive to other areas in the western states, and to Moab once a year, exploring other spectacular singletracks.
fun, Fun, and more FUN!

| Depends on my mood and conditions | NoVA-b Jan 10, 2004 12:11 PM | | Ok I'll bite seeing as how I just got a digicam. I can be found most on my Tomac 98Special Pro w/Talas RLC and Sram x.9. But I change often between a NRS2 w/sdg rockers, black elite, and sram; and a custom 853/oxgold rear hardtail. The Klein is a 97 Additude Race and was once my primary bike but I only take it out now when I am fustrated or looking for some abuse. Aside from the 121 rear rim and MRC cranks it could qualify for a weight-weenie @ 20.1 lbs though nothing I have ever riddin compares as far as power transfer.

| Where is that? | Kpicha Jan 10, 2004 12:57 PM | | You've got lots o'bikes! Must be nice to be able to choose :)
I'm guessing your name implies Northern VA? The shot kind of looks like Accotink.
Cheers,
Kristina |
| Where is that? | NoVA-b Jan 10, 2004 3:47 PM | | You have a good eye Kristina. My townhouse is at the top of the hill w/ the steps so I get to see everyone riding. Its perfect motivation to ride when I am feeling lazy or after work. Its become a nice meeting area for goup rides over the last year or so. During the summer months I leave extra hoses, tools/tubes etc. out for people and run a mini shop out of my basement.
The trails were in good shape today and really fun with the light snow. Are you still riding? Most of my group have hung up the bikes for the winter. |
| Lucky you! | Kpicha Jan 10, 2004 4:58 PM | | You can just ride right out of the house :) Ha, now I've just realized you've probably seen me a dozen times trying to get up that hill!
Yeah, I'm still riding. I'll probably be heading over there later tomorrow afternoon (2:30ish). How's the ground anyway? I was over at Conway Forest today and the ground had so much frost heave that it was like riding in quick sand. Quite a workout for me. :) |
| Oh we all struggle on that hill- | NoVA-b Jan 11, 2004 7:30 AM | | Especially me. It is our last climb after we have spent everything on the trails so we have made it a tradition to race up the hill. Some friends even do a little Camalbak tugging to gain an advantage. We all collapse at the top with our eyes rolled back, grasping for more oxygen. Thankfully we can close a gait to hide our embarrassment if needed. Whoever is the last up or has bonked gets cleanup duties of hosing down the bikes.
Glad to see you still riding. Even though it's cold, I really like riding this time of year because there are so few people on the trails and the they can recover from all of the abuse. Since about 8:30 only 3-5 joggers and a handful of bikers have gone by, and usually on a Sunday morning I'll see 75-150 people going around the lake by 11. More if the weather is nice.
The trails were very quick yesterday and the ground is still frozen in the tree-lined areas. However, the powerlines were slushy with the snow melting into a soft mud. All the trails by the railroad track should the fine today along with the Wakefield trails by 495/braddock rd. The big red hill is going to be muddy and slow. I'll be on the Accotink trails about 2 and will look for you. Have a great ride-
Brian |
| Oh we all struggle on that hill- | Kpicha Jan 11, 2004 3:59 PM | | LOL! That sounds like fun! I can bet that gate comes in handy after you guys look like that!
I didn't see your message until I got back.:( I ended up staying over at Wakefield since I hadn't ridden there in a couple of months from all the rain. It was really nice now since its all frozen. The stream crossings were pretty wild since they're partly frozen. Really thrguh me for a loop in a couple of spots. I'm not looking forward to the thaw, though. Practiced log ramps and climbing (Lord knows I need plenty of that!) so I'm nice and sore now. That's got to be a good sign :)
Did you get out? I actually saw someone riding in shorts and T-Shirt!! Talk about crazy! How was the Accotink side?
Cheers,
Kristina |
| Oh we all struggle on that hill- | NoVA-b Jan 11, 2004 7:38 PM | | Sweet, how was Wakefield? That guy is nuts! I haven't ridden over there much after they sawed out most of the log hops. We are planning on adding in a few this spring but its too cold to do maintenance now. I completely sympathize, right now I'm spending a lot of time climbing those hills cause I need the help.
There were only a few tracks at Accotink but I did see 2 walkers and a dog. Just posted some pics over in passions.
A small group of us will be riding Fountain Head on Tuesday morning 8-8:30am if you are interested. |
| Wakefield was perfect! | Kpicha Jan 12, 2004 5:58 AM | | and you know that's a rarity! It was the first time in many, many months that I didn't come home full of mud. The ground was nice and solid and fast. Some of the streams were partially frozen and the one over in the bowl caught me surprise when the ice didn't break away with my front tire hitting. Good thing for flat pedals or I would have gotten a face full of sharp, wet rocks and ice chunks!
Thanks for the invitation for tomorrow am but I'm home with 3 young children so I won't be able to get out. My ride time is pretty much limited to weekends and group night rides. The weather should be relatively nice so have fun! That place kills me- I have no legs and lungs for Fountainhead.
Cheers,
Kristina |
| Wakefield was perfect! | NoVA-b Jan 12, 2004 9:26 AM | | Glad your ok, and so jealous. With all the rain this year Wakefield turned into a swamp. Looks like this weekend will be good too with light snow mid-week(will believe it when I see it) and re-freeze for the weekend. It could be a repeat of this week. |

| Those bikes look so choice! | SDizzle Jan 11, 2004 12:42 PM | | I like the 'non-advertisement' look. I'm damn proud of the manufacturers I choose to support, and choose product accordingly, but tend to take off all my [obvious] stickers, too. I like the stealth look! |
| A garage full of bikes seems like a stupid thing. | SDizzle Jan 11, 2004 8:36 AM | | ...So I've got only two, and barely enough time to ride them. Most folks with a garage filled with half-a-dozen freakishly expensive bikes have less time than me to ride, and it seems plain silly to just own all those bikes.
A Chameleon, painted by moi, set up full time in SS mode (now with a fixed option!). I also have a Miata 914 for road duty, also set up SS, though never fixed.
The Lizard now has proper riser bars, a new seapost and saddle, and is running tubeless. I live on the Front Range in Colorado, and like the downs AND the ups. |

| re: What bike you ride poll: | feyti Jan 11, 2004 1:19 PM | | I live in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Trails are moderate, sometimes rocky.
I ride a McMahon Boom Shaka, modified to give 4.6" of rear wheel travel. Marzocchi Z1, v-brakes.
I also ride a K2 evo frame. 5.4" of rear travel.
Then I also ride my road bike, a cannondale r900.
