I am very close to buying this bike.. but I have one last question.. should I be worried about the fixed travel Manitou Swinger 3way with SPV. the other liquids come with the adjustable travel of the Fox Talas. What is the difference what are the advantages and disadvantages of each.. I'd appreciate any help.

I've seen quite a lot written here about the Liquid and some about the shocks. You should use the search function and see what you can find. I'd also go to the Shock forum and run some searchs there for the two shocks.

From what I know they are both great shocks. However, I'd rather have the Manitou and do my travel adjusting through some other system, such as shock mounting location.

Sure you don't want a Specialized Enduro or Giant VT? Both seem like nicer bikes than the liquid. Just my opinion

Seems no matter what bike someone buys they like it alot with a few minor nit picks to go with it. No bike is perfect. No bike can do it all the best.

Figure out your riding style and intended usage, find a bike that fits and feels good, and buy it.

If you like it, thats ALL that matters.
I rarely change the rr height but I do adj most other stuff...Destroy

On my Liquid I always keep the rear on max travel but rather often use the rr lockout. I switch 50/50 usage between the forks different heights.

FWIW, I'd much prefer a frt fork that has on the fly height adj than having to stop and 'screw down' the fork spring.

should I buy a liquid 25?
It has to be your choice.Structure

Isn't freedom a bummer sometimes? The freedom to make our own mistakes, or victories.

There is nothing wrong with the Liquid 25. In fact, it's a nice bike. They get bagged on alot on these boards, but that's because people here are very picky and the Liquid is not as exciting as some other bikes.

However, if you really want an opinion, mine is to go with a Giant VT or Specialized Enduro instead. Both have several advantages on the Liquid.

The giant VT is a bit pricy and I don't like the way the rear linkage is setup on the enduro and I also didn't like it on my test ride as much as the trek.. but what are the advantages that you were saying.

I don't think there is a huge difference between these three, but here goes my own short list.

The Enduro and VT are both a bit lighter. The Enduro comes with the very classic FSR rear. IMO this is still the best rear suspension design out there, bar none. Soon VPP links make take this title, but as of now I think the classic Horst linked FSR design is still a thing of beauty.

The VT rear sus is very similar to the Liquid in that both use a 4-bar shock linkage. The VT puts this linkage lower on the bike and thus reduces the center of gravity. The VT also has more rear wheel travel.

I don't want to beat up on the Trek. I think its a valid choice. But I disliked the way the bike handled. The rearend felt slightly flexy. I would have to ride one more to know if that was just me or "real." I do like (a lot) that the Trek allows you to put the seat post farther up or down.

Honestly if you like the way the Trek feels, then its probably the best choice for you. Have you looked at the VT3? That should be in your price range? I know locally one can get 03 Enduros and VT2 for a steal.

You really can't go wrong with any of the big three (Giant, Spec, Trek). Have fun and post a review once you've ridden if for a while.
Bikes are so similar nowadays.Destroy

One really can't go wrong getting a $1500+ bike nowadays. Its not like one design is definitely better than another. They all work well. Just a matter of what specifics or type of the bike one wants.

Given the same price range, I'd also like to know what advantages an Enduro or VT have over a Liquid making them better?
I own a Liquid and it is one of thedlowell

best all around FS bikes that I have owned -- which include, spec FSRXC, Heckler, Blur, Kona King Kikapu, and spec enduro - all of them were good bikes -- The Liquid with the Talus shock and a Talus fork is an awesome combination - the Manitou Swinger shock might make it better, but I doubt it. So if I were you I would look for a closeout on last years Liquid - it doesn't matter which model as they are arll the same frame - set it up with the compontents you like after you ride it awhile. The Giant VT bikes are sluggish and don't climb well -- at least that is my opinion after a test ride -- and the report of those I have ridden with that own one and of "Mountain Bike Action" shoot out testers. Good luck -- D
