Trade my Blur for an Uzzi SLX??(7 posts)

Trade my Blur for an Uzzi SLX??Mike E.

Hey there,

I've been looking to sell my large Blur with the hopes of paying off some home repairs and putting together a lower-end bike with the remaining of the proceeds.
Then along comes a fellow who'll trade me a medium '02 Uzzi SLX with a Fox RC frame for frame. My intention was to build up a burlier machince, so the SLX would fit here. What to do? Anyone with experience with the Uzzi feel free to chime in. A minor concern is with the size. I'm 6'2" with long legs, so I'm unsure if I'll be able to lower the saddle enough for the trails up here in Vancouver. I guess this is an issue with all interrupted seat-tube bikes. The Intense site says that the top-tube is adjustable from 23-24", and I'm assuming that it's accomplished by adjusting the seat-mast.

Enough rambling. I'm just wondering if it's worth throwing my original intention out the window.

Cheers,

Mike E.

I'd trade for the Uzzi and get a Axiom telescoping seat post and be in FR heaven for sure.

Medium SLX might be a bit small for youAdman

If you're looking for north shore style hucking & hairy DH riding, then a medium might be fine. I ride mine more as an all around bike for technical XC, DH, and hucking, and my large is about as small as I'd go (I'm 6'3" with medium-long legs).

Yep, the top tube length can be adjusted thanks to a multi-position seat mast. Go for the Titec post, it comes in the right diameter so you don't need a shim for the SLX.

I would say don't make the trade for several reasons. I'm 5'11" and have a medium SLX set up as a trailbike. It fits very well but the seatpost is fairly lengthy so it cannot be lowered as much as I might like. For you, you might not even have to cut a full length Thomson.

The bike you're swapping for has the Fox RC, newer SLX's come with the 5th Element which is more complicated but once dialed in provides a better ride.

Do you know how much the SLX has been hucked? At am minimum I would check the bearings behind the BB to see if they still turn smooth.

My 2 cents.

I'm currently riding a large 02 SLX with a 5th element. There's no way in hell a medium will fit you. I'm 6'1 and even with a 130mm stem a medium intense is tiny. Don't do it. Adjusting the seat pod will lengthen the top tube by an inch but you'll be so far behind the pedals it will be very difficult to ride the bike on anything except downhills. Not a good idea if you intend on using it as a trailbike too. With the 5th element the bike really does pedal awesome and is truly very versatile. Its truly not too much of a hassle to pedal it uphill. If configured right. I doubt its the same with a fox rc though. I'm currently selling mine and planning on getting something like a switchblade though. I've been using it mainly as a trailbike so I might as well just get a slightly lighter frame and the switchblade should behave very similarly. If you're interested and sell your blur let me know.
Thanks for all the info. nmMike E.
