From all the negative feedback I see with those new formats (myself included), I have a feeling that this might be a new year with much less contribution for many of us on this forum. Do any of you have an idea, a suggestion as to what we could do to keep in touch? I haven't been here for many years like some of you, but for some strange reason, I have a feeling that a friendly relationship is slipping under our feet.
Well, I guess I'll at least make sure before they pull the plug off that I check out the e-mail addresses and keep them in a nice list.
Cheers

| Corp productivity will shoot way up | JimC. Jan 13, 2004 5:56 AM | | I'm not sure but sense I'll be here less. My email list is intact, but I feel some loss at being able to "easily drop in and out" with a minimum of kerfuffle.
We'll have to see I guess. Jim |
| In my experience.... | Lucky Jan 13, 2004 6:24 AM | | Few folks like change, and we will grouse loud and long. Most will adapt, however. Personally, I despise the new format - I can't tell who is responding to whom. The branched threads were much easier to follow. I've seen the new format on other forums before this and was glad MTBR was different. Will I quit posting now that MTBR has a new format? Probably not. It'll take me a while to figure things out, and I may never have an avatar. I get too much good info and share too many laughs to walk away because of a format change. Hang in there!

| I second that... | Kpicha Jan 13, 2004 6:31 AM | | it'll take a while to get used to but we'll get used to it in the end. Besides, we'd all miss you and we're really interested in hearing how you like the Devinci (if you ever get it), especially since they put all that research into it. :)
Cheers,

| Not that I like the new format, but the staggered or 'branched"... | Bikeless Rider Jan 13, 2004 10:19 PM | | ...view is selectable after you click on a post that you want to read. The lower right corner will show three view options, select "threaded" if you want the branched look that shows who's responded to who. Of course, it still sucks in that you have to click on a post first, and what really sucks is the lack of a "view all" option, which I've not heard mentioned yet. This of course means you have to click on each individual thread to read it, must be a pain for dial up, esp when photos are involved. There also seems to be less space for nice large photos, but keeping the old format is going to be like convincing people that you don't need 9 speed, or Ti cassettes, or bottle openers brazed on to your bike frame! All I have to say is, I'm not giving up this ship 'till it goes down, and I think I see a big iceberg up ahead! |

| re: sniff,...Larry, DGC, Tcheezy, Kathy, CTRider, JimC, Bikezill | DGC Jan 13, 2004 7:23 AM | | I think we need to send them e-mails or posts or however, and just let MTBR know that the new forum style is not going to cut it. A few responses wont do anything, we ALL have to pitch in and complain then it may be taken care of. |
| I definitely agree about letting opinions be known.... | Lucky Jan 13, 2004 9:59 AM | | but don't give up. It'll probably change again in a few years. Nothing stays the same for long on the internet.

| Guess Im a loser, | drumstix Jan 13, 2004 10:03 AM | | I actually like the new forum, the good posts will hang around while the bad ones will fall away. It will be nice to quote someone here and there, and its much easier to post pictures now. If you need to find a post you wont have to scroll down thru long posts. I for one like the change! |
| It's not that simple... | Lucky Jan 13, 2004 10:16 AM | | In the old days, the original MTBR format brought posts with new replys to the top. This meant that obnoxious OT posts and flame-fests took forever to die. Somehow they're like a train wreck. People can't but look. Then they post, keeping them alive. MTBR changed to the current chronological format to kill that crap. However, someone on another board mentioned that the moderator should be able to freeze a thread so junk scrolls off the page. Now that there are moderators, maybe it won't be that bad.

| "to the top" | race frehley Jan 14, 2004 12:06 PM | | The new board software allows the "to the top" feature to be disabled, plus threads can be "locked" i.e. remain visible but not allow new posts, so they eventually fall away. |
| re: sniff,...Larry, DGC, Tcheezy, Kathy, CTRider, JimC, Bikezill | Bikezilla Jan 13, 2004 10:36 AM | | Don't go Mario!!!
For cryin' out loud don't you realize we're all waiting to find out how the Banzai works out??? C'mon M' if you want to stay in touch, register, and send some priv-messages so at least we all have your email. I too like the community feeling on this board, something I think the mfgr forums may limited.
As for me, I already stopped looking at this list. I thought it was closed until I heard about a couple of threads here.
**** Did I read the other post right? do older threads fall off forever???? ****
If that is the case I DO have a problem with that. I also don't want the current archives to go. There is tons of good info and I sure wouldn't want to see the same threads pop up, over, over, and over.
Whatever the end, I sure hope all you great people don't ride off into the digital woods. We have something great going here, and I'm just getting to the point where I can give a little back.

| Give it a chance | WarrGuru Jan 13, 2004 1:10 PM | | You should at least use the new system for a while. See if you get used to it.
The new format does allow threaded views once you choose a sub-topic....then you get the threaded hierarchy. It's not quite as nice and it does take a few extra clicks, but maybe we'll get used to it........maybe not. |
| Mario give the new format a chance. | CTRider Jan 13, 2004 4:36 PM | | If we all decide to participate we'll still keep th e WBTB forum hoppin and informative and fun.
I post a lot at Ridemonkey but I admit to liking the varied formats.
I do plan on visiting the new MTBR forums and contributing where I can.
And I do want to know how you like that Banzai bro! |
| Re: sniff,...Larry, DGC, Tcheezy, Kathy, CTRider, JimC, Bikezill | Erok Jan 13, 2004 5:00 PM | | C'mon, it isn't that bad! I prefer this format too, but is it worth leaving for? I for one will miss a few of you if you leave, as I have come to look forward to your posts. All of the people mentioned plus a few more are so knowledgeable about this sport. It would be a shame to see you leave because of a format change. Please stick around and give it a fair chance, you all have much to offer! |
| I'll stick around. | FM or MF Jan 13, 2004 5:13 PM | | Hey, I'm flattered that anybody would miss me if I didn't!
I like the new forums; However I'm used the the VB format from other message boards. Avitars and bios are cool. What can I say, I'm a geek.
There are two problems though, that I hope will be solved...
1. There are just too many boards now, especially with old and new formats to choose between. twice as many pages to surf, without any more content. I vote that the internet gods choose a format and commit to it %100.
2. the links are willy nilly right now. Seems to be improving, but I don't see why disccussions and forums need to be separate. Maybe they already fixed that?
Anyway, as long as I am expected to work 8 hours a day, but can get mny job done in a lot less, I'll be hanging out here on MTBR, waiting for the bell to ring so I can go ride instead of type! |
| It has been posted that the old boards will be closed... | CraigH Jan 13, 2004 5:39 PM | | by the end of the month. |
| Mario, if you bolt before that Banzi arives, I swear... | Bikezilla Jan 13, 2004 9:50 PM | | ...I'll Hunt your ass down for a personal review. ;^)
It's just not right after all this suspense. YOU OWE US!!! okay j/k, that's a little over the top, don't call the feds.
But I'd hate to see the MTBR forums die over a format change.
