It means that the headtube angle isn't so "slack" (i.e., relaxed) that the big feels sluggish on climbs due to a floppy steering feel. A steeper headtube angle will give the bike a quicker steering feel, which would be better for XC compared to the slacker angles you might find on a more freeride or DH oriented MTB.
>why is high standover a negative thing for a bike?
Tougher to dismount in nasty terrain without crunching "your boys" on the top-tube. |

What other bikes have you considered? |

I own a ID, a size 17, and i am 189 cm high, the bottom bracket is really high, but you will get used to that, and it will clear everything coming along(no crankarm scratches...) it is not slack, so i put a marzocchi Z1 on, and it fits very well, with a high rizer bar, and spacers, that will mean you could put on a more xc orientated fork like 100 mm on also and sort of race it.
Note also stand over clearence it very high.
I ride in denmark(flat, with som tech singletrack) mainly trailbiking, aggressive xc it is good at that, but if you dont push it hard, you should look for something a bit lighter with a airshock, like, spec. enduro, norco fluid 1, or the switchblade that seem like also a winner with loads of travel, and a very good 4-bar system, if i were to pick a bike right now i would surely look closely at the switchblad. So you need to do some thinking/testing for getting the right headangle(fork, spacer, stem)
feel free to write me.
