Tire Knob Repair(8 posts)

Tire Knob RepairThe Squeaky Wheel
Jun 4, 2002 2:10 PM
Arrrgghh....

Tore a knob on my new UST Conti Explorer and it wouldn't seal with latex.
The knob is half-detached from the carcass.

Anybody know of a good way to save the knob and glue it back down onto the tire? I tried using the rubber cement in a patch kit but it didn't hold.

Thanks,

Squeak
Nope. If it is down to the casing...shiggy

...I just remove the knob and fill the bare spot with Shoe Goo.

If the casing is cut you may be SOL on a UST tire.

It's time to perform Knobectomy (Oooooo that sounds painful!). It's a tough descision but sacrafice the knob to save the tire. Just remember - "Do no harm".
Sutures won't work?The Squeaky Wheel

Oh well.
I successfully patched the tire from the inside and it's again holding air ( and latex).
I guess I'll have to treat that knob like an appendix & out it goes.

I love tubeless/Stan's EXCEPT when I have to do a trailside flat repair with latex dripping all over me and mosquitoes treating me like I'm their breakfast.

Mike T., I'll be heading up to VT next week and will get in touch once I'm settled. See you in the Green Mtns.

You're the Sawbones not me. I just take sutures out that's all.

Great on the VT bit! I've got lotsa holls this summer/fall.
zap-a-gap flexable superglueSeb

A friend had this stuff for assembling models that get a lot of handling, for bits where the joints are thin and might flex. I used it to fix my shoe, and it KICKS ASS over shoe goo for actul gluing of tight fitting parts. I think he got it at a craft store, I should really pick some up...

I think the brand was "zap-a-gap". It comes in a small bottle kind of like nail polish with a spout instead of the brush, and its brown. Basically it is flexable like rubber glue, but strong like super glue. Probably great for patching UST tires (better thasn normal super gl;ue), and I bet it would hold on detached knobs just fine.
