Hi!
Got a problem regarding building a disc wheel for a heavy rider, set it up with 3X lacing, using double butted spokes (alloy nipple) and mavic X317 rims w/ shimano deore XT hydraulic discs.. the problem is that it always has a ticking sound to the spokes when being ridden and when the brakes are applied... i have it re-laced that the lacing of the spokes wont hit each other but still it TICKS!!! PLEASE HELP!!! should i change to brass nipples or something??? added weight but it helps... why not?? ;( also, have tried lubing & greasing each spoke hole but it still has the TICKING sound!!!... if anyone out there could help.. please post it ASAP!!!!

Interesting how you laced it 3x without the spokes touching each other!
I would check the lacing and the spoke tension of every single spoke in the wheel. If you have got just one out of place, then there is no way that the wheel can be evenly tensioned, and slack/overtight spokes may 'tick' as they tension/untension themselves per wheel revolution.
And are you sure its not the disc/hub that is causing this noise?
Once had similar problem...El Jester

one of the pins used to hold the ends of the rims together was loose and made a ticking sound when ridden.
Yup, had that exact problem with my Mavic 217's (nm)AndyH
