Hayes Superlight Disc or King ISO Hubs(3 posts)

Hayes Superlight Disc or King ISO Hubsqfactor02

Does anyone have reliability experience with the Hayes Superlight disc hubs. I am over 200 lbs and ride fairly aggresive X-Country. I am currently riding 2001 XT Disc with Sun Rhyno Lite rims and although they are strong, they weigh too much. Looking at building a new set with Velocity VCX rims and hoping to keep them fairly strong and reliable in the process.

Ya the Hayes super lites are on sale at price point i think 249 pair. I have hugi 240 discs on VXC rims and a front king ISO on a rhyno lite. The kings have larger flanges thus shorter spokes, thus I feel a bit stiffer laterally. than 240's really small diameter flage for weight savings. I have already greased drive mech. in rear 240 after heavy creek crossings. no problem there.VXC rims are good to,my 155lbs.dont know about King rear ISO hub thou. Looks sweet . tough call.I,d get kings but the hayes deal is hard to pass up.
Hayes Superlights are Hugi 240s...Metroid

The Hayes hubs were made by DT Swiss and the Superlights are equivalent to the Hugi 240 disc hubs. They are nice hubs but the Kings are much nicer. The Hugis are cheaper and it's a bit easier to lube the ratches. The Kings have larger flanges and axels for stiffness, larger high percision custom made bearing that are much easier to service than Hugis, better sealed in my experience, faster engaging with 4 times as many engagement points, and come in many colors. You might want to look at the American Classics as well. They are lighter, cheaper (retail), and stiffer than the Hugis. Check the reviews on all of these hubs...
