Hope xc or Hugi/Onyx hubset for . . . .blaxce

general xc riding. I've been hardtail rider for over 7 years and have finally made the jump to fs. I am now looking for a new disc wheelset to complement my new set of Avid mechs. I am 165# and my riding style is purely xc. I may do an ocassional drop here and there, but i prefer to keep my wheels on the ground. I have had no problems with my current (soon to be former) XTR/517 wheels. I've had them for about 1 1/2 years and only had to adjust them once.

My rim choice would be Mavic 317's, since I don't feel that I need anything too overbuilt. My dilema however are the Hubs. I've been contemplating between the Hugi/Onyx and the Hope XC sets.

I would appreciate any feedback about this set up or anything about disc wheelsets in general? Would these be right for me? Any experiences with these sets?

Unfortunately money is definitely a factor. If it wasn't I'd be riding a set of Chris Kings. Drool! Please help me decide. Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard of a single failure with the Hopes
they are similiar in weight and have nice smooth bearings and a solid engagement
Have heard of way more failures (just read the reviews) with the Onyx

I would also recommend the VXC rims, similiar weight but I think stiffer and better built
I know several "wheel guys" (speeddream, oddsandendos) who feel the same on the rims...

I would use Wheelsmith DB 14s, 3x and alloy nipples for you

bigger guys doing harder riding I would use brass nipples
