Mavic 121 vs. 521 rim(3 posts)

Mavic 121 vs. 521 rimandy-1
Jun 16, 2002 2:49 PM
Hi!

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between Mavic 521 and 121 rims? Is the 521 MUCH more stronger than the 121? I'm especially interested in the spoke length - can I use the spokes I've had on my old 121 rims on the 521 rims?

Thanx, andy

andy - 521's and 121's have different profiles - thus you will need new spokes.. and yeah, the 521's are that much stronger because they are a bit wider giving your tire a better box section over the rocks and the CD treatment makes them bombproof!

The Mavic 121 was discontinued about 5 years ago and replaced by the D521. Strength wise they are the same and are both designed for the same applications. The 121 is a shallower profile so the spokes are approximately 4mm longer than those required for the D521. So it's new spokes.
