Hope XC disc hubs(3 posts)

Hope XC disc hubsdontnomuch

I read the reviews on this website for these hubs and they're generally positive. I'd like to lace them up to some slightly used Mavic 517s and use Avid mechanicals on a SC Superlight with a RockShox SID XC. Are there any problems that might arise with this combination of products? Thanks for the help!
I'm no expert, but I think you might need new rims...Mr. Moto

I believe that Mavic 517's should be for rim brake only. If memory serves, they do not have reinforced eyelet/surface area and were not made for the forces exerted by disc brakes. I could be wrong, but search for threads on this discussion and you will probably get some info from the riders who know.

Might be better off picking up new rims like the 317's, or Velocity VXC's.

You can easily lace the 517 to the HOPE XC hubs...becuase I have them sitting right here 3X lacing with DT competition DB Spokes. These wheels are on a 2000 SC Heckler (same exact frame as Superlight, except less gusseting) They work great, all I have to say to you is get new spokes and nipples, and make sure you get the appropriate spoke length!!!!
