spinergy xyclone wheels...(7 posts)

spinergy xyclone wheels...fireboy

I am looking at the spinergy xyclone disc wheelset...

The price I have been given makes me take a double look at something I probably never would have considered before...but I wanted a few opinions on the durability and quality of these wheels...

I am a 200lb rider, do epic/funhog style XC riding and like to do 6' and shorter drops and jumps...along with shore style stunts, logs, etc...these wheels would be on a long travel front suspension hardtail...

are they sturdy enough for this style and use?? or are they gonna fold faster than a cowboy with a pair of deuces???

thanks in advance for your opinion...

i looked at the xyclones very briefly. they are a ultra light set of xc race disc wheels. yeah, they are light, but they are expensive and costly to maintain. also, they are a system wheelset, so it's gonna be a pain in the @ss to have them serviced, most shop aren't gonna stock parts for them. with the combo of your weight and riding style, these are gonna get thrashed very quickly. check out a set of hope xc or bulb disc hubs laced to a set of mavic 219s or even a set of rhyno lites. they will wigh more, but will hold up much better. just my 2 cents...cheers.
thanks kam..I may end up with Sun Singletracks (nm)fireboy

i have a set of these in my garage. switched to tubeless at the end of the summer. they are in good shape and i would love to see them get a good home. if you want to get into a slightly used set for cheap let me know.

I was shocked to be offered a pro deal on these wheels from spinergy...$380 for a pair....

I wouldn't mind a used pair...but don't want you to take a beating on the price...just thought I would let you know my situation...

are the rims VERY skinny?? cuz if they are...that might be the clincher (hee hee) for me to look elsewhere...I like a bit of a wider rim...like a rhyno lite or singletrack...

thanks for your reply!!!
